Honestly, unless you NEED to go over 4.3GHz, the overclocked non-K processor will be as fast. If you're going for maximum fps and performance in your tasks and every bit counts for you, then sure, get the K version. I got the non-K because it was significantly cheaper at the time, and I was still able to get a motherboard combo deal for it at microcenter.

If you use those settings I've listed, leave all the voltages at Auto amd LLC at default, and it should be completely and fully stable, because overclocking non-K chips by 4 bins is within their spec. Now if you then want to tweak the core voltage down a bit, to reduce temperatures, start subtracting offset voltage in small increments and running various stability tests. For my stock profile (also Per Core mode though), I am able to use -0.1V offset with LLC level 5, but for the 4.3GHz profile, I have to go up to -0.05V offset and use LLC level 3 for perfect stability. Each system/board is different, so your results will probably differ a bit from mine.

Havng gone through a dozen 1155 boards(Exxaggeration) and played with the mobile platform HM67 Pretty much everything can do a 105ish baseclock so 43 * 105 = 4515 Mhz Yes i realise this overclocks everything but 5mhz is sort of eh, My laptop was (before bios update) doing 110 baseclock * 24

Well, my Z77E-ITX cannot. It's not even quite stable at BCLK of 101. I could probably up DRAM and VTT a whole bunch, which I tried to some extent, but then the question is why... when the return is so small. Also, my particular motherboard doesn't allow for PLL voltage tweaking. So motherboard by motherboard case. I've already bumped VTT a bit to support 2 8GB RAM modules, and RAM voltage is at 1.55V.

P.S.: I believe it's an exaggeration that most motherboards can support BCLK of 105. Very great exaggeration from everything I've read. Certainly not for perfectly stable systems. Only if you go with something like LGA 2011 sockets.

See now on a locked platform any return is good imo, To squeeze just that tad more out of it, I think 4.5 is the average people oc ivy too? so why spend 20 bucks extra when you can make a 3770 do it 9 times out of 10

Again, if I can't do it on my motherboard, then I can't do it? You're saying it's worth running a very overvolted hot system to get an extra 200MHz vs a cool and perfectly stable system at 4.3GHz? That's a subjective disagreement on my part then.
P.S.: perhaps with a larger overclocking-oriented motherboard it would have been easy to run a BCLK of 102 or 103, but not for mine.

I'm not saying you have to, And i'm not saying you should, All of mine didn't need over volting on any component to do a minor bclk adjustment, Perhaps you just got a quirky board, Who knows.

Yeah, perhaps. I tried it diligently back when I still had the "magic" Samsung RAM in my system. I set the RAM to the very lose stock settings and started raising BCLK, and couldn't even get BCLK of 101 perfectly stable, after bumping VTT a bit too. Also could not overclock via BCLK on a Gigabyte Z68 motherboard in another computer here (that's running a multiplier-overclocked i5 2400), as I had the same idea there (plus Sandy runs much cooler and the system has better airflow, so I thought why not). In the end, I don't even notice any difference between my system at stock and overclocked to 4.3GHz, in games too, so I decided it was not worth worrying about. I thought it's a known thing that 1155 chips don't like raised BCLK. If I got a K processor, I'd raise the multiplier, and if I got a 2011 socket processor, I'd bother with BCLK (also used BCLK tweaking for my old Phenom II processor).

Admittadly some of them probably don't like you tinkering with it, However on all of my systems i do have the IGP disabled which probably helps as thats the main issue for instability, That and the PCIE bus, And by disabled i do mean perma disabled at the bios level, which on my laptop completely shuts it off, It doesn't even get detected on boot, Hence if i take my dedicated gpu out the system just throws a video error, Probably why i can get such a high Baseclock.





Just something i threw together in the five seconds between our last posts, havn't had a chance to really play with it since i updated it to a new bios.

Bclk also depends on the cpu, using different cpus in the same motherboard some can do higher than others. I can't speak for all boards but I've tried 9 different socket 1155 boards & every one has been able to do at least 105 bclk with a chip that could do it. Ivy & z77 are better with bclk than sandy chips on p67 were.
1155 chips aren't known to dislike raised bclk, most people just don't need to raise it when the multi gets the job done. Too high a bclk can affect sata & pci-e devices, but most things are fine up to at least 110 bclk.
