I spend an obscene amount of time on XDA, in the development and Q&A forums for the GT-i9300. I haven't seen any such threads.
So like I said...

Edit: The problem is there on a butt load of models. It may require certain circumstances to encounter that not everyone will meet, but that doesn't mean those phones don't have the issues. TV out is a big feature to have screwed up, even if it occurs more readily when in a car environment, for example.

Is it just me or is 1080p screens on phones just a huge gimmick, 720p looks just as good on any screen smaller than 9" and takes up a lot less memory

This is the reason i'm holding out. I'm so tempted to get the s3 but i know, the S4 is somewhere around the corner. Nexus 4 missed its chance with me. Here in europe it costs up to 450 euros. Only place you can get it from apparently is germany, because they have a play store. But i do not live in germany so their fault. And most shops don't even have it readily available.

But i have faith in samsung. My Samsung galaxy s 1 recently broke :-(. But i must say, it took a great beating (it's actually still working, just the display doesn't switch on anymore).

That's what happens when you lend it to your sister.

@nitrogannex, I think the only way to tell is actually holding phones with such resolution side by side. I thought i'm satisfied with me Sgs1 until i held a One x's screen next to it. Now i wonder how much better/ if at all a 1080p screen is. I've got the feeling it's going to be great otherwise not many high end phones would be making the jump. Then again, it probably 'sells' better. Since the average joe just goes for what sounds good. Anyway, i'm off to bed. Night
