easy, check price of HD 6950. Not much. HD 6950s were $180-220 even after HD 7000 series came out , but that's because it is roughly the HD 7850.

If the HD 7950 outperforms the HD 8870 (or 9870 if 8870 is OEM rebranded 7870) then it will keep it's price more

see speculation: http://videocardz.com/34981/amd-radeon-hd-8870-and-hd-8850-specifiation-leaked , http://videocardz.com/36122/amd-radeon-hd-8000-series-specifications-analysis , http://videocardz.com/39041/meet-aruba-curacao-hainan-and-bonaire-the-codenames-radeon-hd-8000-series, http://videocardz.com/39065/oem-amd-radeon-hd-8000-graphics-cards-are-rebranded-hd-7000-series

and postponement of GTX 700 series as well as Sea Islands http://videocardz.com/39202/nvidia-geforce-700-and-amd-radeon-hd-8000-series-postponed-to-q4-2013

yeah do not expect the HD 7950 to fall much below USD 300. the HD 8870 is expected to be priced at USD 279. 1792 shaders at 1.1 ghz. 256 bit memory at 6 Ghz. the HD 7950 at 1.1 ghz would perform on par with HD 7970 Ghz and beat the HD 8870. also the HD 7950 has more bandwidth which helps it in bandwidth demanding cases.

I've seen the HD 7950 for ~$260 around November - December (black friday?) but you can get NIB ones for about $230-270 from people that end up not using it for their build.

The closest thing you will see to a price drop would be the amd game bundles. Buy them quick when they first release and you have a good shot getting 50-40 dollars from them. The Never Settle Reloaded bundle just came out last week.

Unless some company does what EVGA was doing with GTX 480s, it's not going to price drop. There will probably be an influx of used ones when the next gen comes, though.
