[Gizmodo] The PlayStation 4 Will Cost Over $400 - Page 32

I think we're done here.
so when the PS4 does come out, would it be a wise option to build a gaming pc with midrange - high end hardware when the PS4 is only around $450 (many are saying it will cost $450 and be as good as a midrange pc), Do we know what kind of GPU it's most like at this point?

...Sigh.

360 titles when it first launched were actually running at equal or higher settings than your average PC at a similar frame-rate, it was only people who ran SLI or a 7950GX2 that had faster PCs until the 8800GTX and 8800GTS came out, that includes comparing FPS across the same games. (Remember Oblivion's launch? It was ridiculously hard to max out on anything that wasn't an 8800GTX without occasional stuttering.)

You need to stop feeding the troll. Same spec wise of course a console would run better. That is the easiest logic possible.

If everyone would have the same old Phenom II cpu, 4GB of ram and a gtx460 1GB and every developer would optimise for it you'd be surprised how amazing it would perform in 1080p. It would show things you do not hold possible.

I enjoy PC gaming the most due to its adaptability, openness and the ability to make it future ready at any point in time. I love how you can mod games freely. I love how steam, greenmangaming and other digital distribution companies work, especially when they have amazing sales.

Having said that I think if there were to be some amazing exclusive PS4 games I'd bite. If its $400-500 US Dollars, what is that in GBP (British pounds) if you take into account tax.

I also see a lot of people saying "why buy console when I can just buy a high-end GPU".

I want to point out that you can not play games with just a GPU. You need to first buy the Mobo, CPU, RAM, HDD, PSU, then finally the GPU (also a case if you want to make it the same as a console).

So if your going to compare apples to apples, build a complete full system for the same price as the console.

Even then the console will run games better.

2) Developers can use tricks based off the consoles actual architecture to increase performance. PCs can't do this because tricks that work on a HD4870 might not work on a HD5870 despite them both being VLIW5 due to the differences, same for CPUs, nVidia, etc.

3) The same hardware being across all consoles also means it's a much more controlled hardware environment...They know how much RAM will be used at point A whereas on a PC you could have anywhere from 100MB RAM spare to over 30GB spare, this also applies for CPUs, GPUs, HDDs/SSDs/ODDs, etc.

Besides the point. A console can not be upgraded so comparing 'upgrading a PC with one new part, with all old / used parts' to a 'new console with all new parts' is worthless.

You can argue that a PC is better in terms of hardware because you can upgrade it but was not the point I was contesting.

The only problem with that argument is simply that pc and consoles can never be compared on an apples to apples level due to the fact that owning PC opens up a lot more potential then just gaming. I burn dvd's, cds, blu rays on pc, i encode on my pc, I do photoshop / image editing on my pc, 3d modeling, etc.

All this cannot be done on a console of course so the price difference is easily worth it if you do anything outside of gaming (which i'd say most of us do on a day to day basis).

They are two totally different platforms, so never understood the pc vs console argument. Consoles have their place and so do PC's. To be honest, the console is trying too hard now to take the place of a pc as an all in one device though but thats just my opinion.

I agree but it still is stupid to compare a single GPU to a complete console.

The reason people argue PC vs Console is to make themselves feel better for whatever they have themselves... that or to just rustle the jimmies.
