I want to point out that you can not play games with just a GPU. You need to first buy the Mobo, CPU, RAM, HDD, PSU, then finally the GPU (also a case if you want to make it the same as a console).

So if your going to compare apples to apples, build a complete full system for the same price as the console.

Even then the console will run games better.

ye and how many does buy new psu, hdd, ram, mobo everytime they buy a new gpu? not many

I have an upgrade schedule of about five years. That's a new Mobo ($150), RAM ($50), CPU ($200), GPU ($200), with a new GPU halfway through ($200). $800 every five years gets me something that performs more than twice as well as a console IMO.
Everything else is a one time expense (or at least very spread out), the cost over time is minimal.

Why are you comparing upgrading a PC to a non-upgradable console?

There is no point.

It's like comparing a 2012 PC to a 2005 PC and then saying "my PC performs twice as fast as that".
Or in console terms; comparing a Wii U to the Gamecube saying "my console performs twice as fast that".
Well... duh.

Exactly, plus IMO people are best off buying a HD7950 or something now and then a PS4 and/or Wii U later...That way you get the best of both worlds, you get the awesome console exclusives like Infamous, Uncharted, Guitar Hero, etc but you also get PC for awesome things. I know my 360 sees a lot of gameplay with exclusives.

And how many people who will buy a console have a PSU capable of powering a decent GPU? Not many. Plus his point is that a console is a full system, you plug it into your TV and you're golden, with a PC you need everything.

Honestly, I reckon OCN would be a lot better if people who complain about consoles actually got one. Graphics aren't really a deal killer unless the art-style is particularly horrid ala Kane and Lynch 2.

I used to own consoles, but then I become a PC gamer. And THEN I became a Surround PC gamer.

I gave my PS3 to my brother because of how disappointed I was about the jump from PS2 to PS3. The gameplay of MGS4 was a lot slower and bogged-down than other games in the series. MGS2 on the PS2 seemed a lot more crisp and quick compared to the slower MGS4 on the PS3. This is when I began to lose respect for console hardware. It's all about finding something that fits within a budget that's good enough for developers. With PCs, you do not have to compromise. You can build whatever you want whenever you want for whatever performance you want.

Also, graphics are a deal killer. If something looks awful, can you really get into the gameplay/story? I mean, REALLY?

Also, MGS4's colors suck. Washed-out PS3/360 colors are another pet-peeve of mine. GOOD DAY, SIRS!

Excuse the bump, but I was at Soundwave festival and want to reply to this.

The PS3 jump was definitely a let down but that was virtually guaranteed simply from the PS2 being so good alone, agreed with PC not being compromise at all.

No, they're really not..At least for me, I'd rather play Dragon Valor for its story than most of the current AAA games and it isn't exactly pretty.
7Sh1Pb1.jpg
Another example is Silent Hill, or Minecraft which currently has 9.5 million owners...More than the vast majority of games. What you're looking for in terms of something being a deal killer is (Most likely) the art style, if you have a beautiful art-style that is accurately represented by the graphics (eg. Minecraft's retro, blocky style) then it doesn't matter than in terms of technical details that it has much less polygons, no AA, etc. Same as Kayne and Lynch looking ugly as all hell despite the technical details (eg. Poly count, etc) not being that bad, it's art-style is a horrible one.

ive been gaming on PC for as long as I can remember
about 6 years ago I really want to give console a try and bought a PS3
used it lots...it was great
but 5 years later i'm back on PC with triple monitors biggrin.gif
PS will still be used for the great exclusives going forward...I have a mighty backlog which is why I won't consider PS4 until its redesign at $250 or less...by then I can still enjoy the PS4 exclusives.

Console's will always have their place in the gaming community. They are for younger kids or girls wanting to play singstar or Dance games. Or just flat out for those who are on a tight budget. They will never offer the best of what's out there and will always be dragging their feet compared to Pc. But honestly what do you expect for 400.00. People who compare them to Pc have never played on an enthusiast rig. Its not even close.

If that's your honest assessment then I'm not sure you really know what gaming is all about.
