When it comes to cheaper gaming, console is the winner, no question.

Basically 9x the cost of a PS4. 22K x 9 = 198k which is close to the price of a fully done up Gallardo. So the comparison is right on. Back on topic I have no idea what my gtx690 will play in 5 years because it will be replaced in the next 6-10 months. I like to stay on top of technology unlike a console which will give you the same graphics for the next 7 years. I love all the talk of ohh it will take them a few years to get the potential out of a Playstation. Its a 7850 its garbage sorry. Like I said I'm all for a new console. My wife enjoys the singstar and dancing games and I needed to upgrade my blu-ray player in the family room anyways. For everyday gaming entertainment its just not for me. 1080p at only 30fps is pretty pathetic when your used to 2560x1440p at 60fps.

so you are probably used to C3 in 1440p at 60 fps at the highest settings right?(1080p is already pathetic?awh man biggrin.gif)because your PC is president camacho?well,i know exactly what you will be playing in 5 years,a slightly upgraded version of the same **** PS4 will be doing, but after paying a few thousand dollars more.(the last part is a bit sarcastic,if you plan on going literal on my ass).i think you have been popping johnny boys for some time now, because if you haven't noticed, you paid at least 1500$ for your rig(not including your SSD,newegg seems to have listed it for 2000$,so if it is the one you bought, then you paid 3500$),and all YOU GET is an increase in resolution, and some increase in quality(which is not much anyway, and if you believe otherwise, you have been living in denial),and not even 60 fps in few games....(Crysis 3 being one).and when the next gen games arrive kiss goodbye to this performance advantage.(ever wonder how a modified 7800gtx can render uc3,and the last of us?its because of optimization and access to low level proprietary API's,and so all this money you spent on PC hardware is just squandered). The 7850 you just claimed was garbage,is capable of rendering graphics, which will make your 690 wanna commit suicide, why? On the PC you dont get the optimisations. seriously man?after spelunking 600$ for a top of the line card which can only max this gen games(and this is after 7 more generations of gfx cards since the launch of the consoles),you are planning to spend more?that,in many dictionaries,is the definition of retard. what you have been playing on your jean claude van overbite PC has not been and will never be much different than it's counterpart on the consoles!(newsflash),Yet you have spent at least 1250$ thumb.gif(and at the max 3250$ thumb.gif)more citing advantages, that i seriously doubt, were worth such amounts of money.

I don't even know what to say to this^. The biggest downer for me when looking at the PS4 is 1080p at 30fps. Is this some kind of joke? In 7 years they have gone from 720 to 1080 at only 30fps. Pc gaming is on the verge of higher resolutions 2560x1600/1440p at 120hz. Basically double the resolution and 4x the fps. And you guys will be stuck with 1080p 30fps for the next 7 years. No one ever said Pc gaming was great for performance/value perspective but like with anything else you have to pay to have the best technology wise. If you can afford to have the best then that's a luxury for your gaming experience. Console's are for kids and those on a budget. If you are a serious gamer you only have a console because that is all you can afford. You can lie to me but come on don't lie to yourself.

I want to point out that you can not play games with just a GPU. You need to first buy the Mobo, CPU, RAM, HDD, PSU, then finally the GPU (also a case if you want to make it the same as a console).

So if your going to compare apples to apples, build a complete full system for the same price as the console.

Even then the console will run games better.

ye and how many does buy new psu, hdd, ram, mobo everytime they buy a new gpu? not many

I have an upgrade schedule of about five years. That's a new Mobo ($150), RAM ($50), CPU ($200), GPU ($200), with a new GPU halfway through ($200). $800 every five years gets me something that performs more than twice as well as a console IMO.
Everything else is a one time expense (or at least very spread out), the cost over time is minimal.

Why are you comparing upgrading a PC to a non-upgradable console?

There is no point.

It's like comparing a 2012 PC to a 2005 PC and then saying "my PC performs twice as fast as that".
Or in console terms; comparing a Wii U to the Gamecube saying "my console performs twice as fast that".
Well... duh.

We're comparing a computer upgraded at the same time as a console is purchased. Let's say this fall after you pick up a PS4, you go and pick up some upgrades for your PC. The console cost about $400, and your upgrades $600. On the PC you can run games at a higher framerate (aka not capped at 30fps) and higher resolution (2560x1440/multi monitor). You get many of the same types of experiences, only enhanced in ways not otherwise possible. Then a few years down the road your GPU becomes obviously lacking in new games and you get a new one, so your upgrades for the five year period end up being around $800, and your price to performance ratio is about the same.

Yes, you can throw logic out the window and spend thousands on upgrades to run everything a few fps higher than everyone else, but it's a choice that you have to make, and is ultimately another item on he list of benefits.

No no...just asking why you invested 300 bucks in a CPU. It was a counter to the argument of why people are complaining about the cost of the PS4.

Frankly, considering the fidelity already coming out of tech demos, just to see it later improve, and always guarenteed a playable frame rate, while also considering the "hard wire coding" used in it's hardware, I'd pay 600 bucks for the quality of a 3x the price machine. The moment consoles decide to have native mouse and keyboard support EXACTLY LIKE the PC, you know how many people are going to switch over? The device could actually be used for real competitive play as it'll be nearly no different.

I'd prefer PC gaming over console gaming in the fidelity aspects. But you can get most of the gaming experience from a console without the need of the PC. There isn't MUCH over the console to justify spending 2-3k on a machine when you can get nearly the same experience for 400-600 bucks. The price per experience is rather logarithmic is scale when comparing the 2 platforms. 1080p is rather hard to drive these days. I'd rather game on a 1366x768 resolution anyways with over 120fps on the 120 hz monitor then 40-50 fps on a 2560x1440 display with a 3k computer.

No,you didn't understood me at all,the fact that PC gaming tanks price/performance wise isn't even a question, the real fact is that, all this 'power' that PC gamers claim they have is nothing but figments of their imagination until game devs utilise that power...the fact that a gpu with 3000+ cores doesn't do much more than one with a few tens, while costing a few limbs speaks for itself.and about your claim of double the res and 4 x the fps, seriously what 'PC' are you using man?show me a gpu that can do that with C3 or FC3,even a 690 can't,so ***?i own a rig myself and a PS3,granted there are slight-modest graphical upgrades,i dont tolerate guys spending a few g's claim that as a "win".sure enjoy modest increases but recognize the whole activity by its true name,"fail".

Just like there are people that spout off things like "Real gamers don't use consoles" I'm gonna say that anyone that thinks gaming is defined by the platform you use to play your games, and how much money you spend on said platform, is not even close to a true gamer.

At the end of the day, it's about the games, even with sub-par hardware (by PC standards) there are still fantastic games available on consoles.

Some of my favorite games I've played in recent years (PC and console) did not require anywhere near the power of a 7950, not to mention the power of 2 7950's I now own. If you think gaming means maxing out AA titles you're completely missing the point.
