Here in the U.S. was 399-599. Standalone blu-ray players however were at the 1000 mark, making buying the ps3 a no-brainer for a more cost effective blu ray player

Regardless of the MSRP, it will likely cost the consumer less to buy the console than it cost Sony to manufacture and distribute it. This was the case with both the PS3 and Xbox 360 on release.

With the more 'off the shelf' design of the system, Sony might actually not be making too much of a loss @ $399 all things considered (advertising, R&D, etc). I think had they returned to the original $299 launch price of their most successful console, they may have increased adoption rates significantly.

All things considered, if they are indeed $399 at launch, I will definitely buy one.

I think at this point, with how long they've had the PS3 out, and how devs/publishers are getting frustrated with the cell processor, there should be a good plenty number of games in the next year being developed for it and that means better/closer ports for us. FINALLY.

And yes, I used to be a hard core PC gamer, I have built tons of custom PCs, with totally custom water cooling installations and have had SLI and CrossFire.

I am close to graduating, and have a tremendous amount of work to do. When I graduate, I have a job lined up. I will continue having a lot of work to do. I simply do not have the time to deal with gaming on PC anymore.

Not to mention, the graphics on PS3/360 are decently good, and massively so when you consider how old and slow the hardware is (Seriously, try running current cross platform games on a PC using a X1900/7800GT level graphics card and watch the single digit FPS. Now look at the same GPUs in the current consoles pulling 30-60fps on the same game). That being the case, I have no doubt the new generation of consoles will work absolute wonders in terms of graphics and probably even outdo PC graphics (at the very beginning) despite not being technically as fast.

£350 in the UK i guess

Thats how electronics tend to work when converted to the UK. I mean you dont expect them to sell it for £260 (Rounded proper conversion amount)

£350 sounds fair to me, Would be a crazy surprise if its £300 D:

I wont buy one anyway coz they only have GT6 going for it now, Maybe a new MGS game if you are lucky Dunno what english dubbed JRPG's will come out

This has turn into a pc elitists thread. Honestly, if you don't like consoles then don't bother coming in the thread. This happens in every thread about cod or anything frowned upon on OCN.

Console gaming will never top PC gaming at least for me.

I cant stand console fps controls and the fact almost everything is watered down and inferior to anything that can be done on a proper PC.

The only time i turn on the PS3 is to watch Netflix!

Besides any of that i think people should wait at least a year or better anyway to buy a new gen console. It gives sony a chance to work out any problems and maybe bring the price down a little.

Almost every PC part manufacturer overprices their items... big time.

All in all 400 dollars for a product that won't be upgraded for like 10 years is not bad... at all.
