The phone that this thread is discussing is not an illegally made imitation, and is in fact a legitimate product. It's a budget option, like the headphones I'm wearing right now. Monoprice-839s, $30, solidly built (though all-plastic), decent sound quality (especially good for the price), and a detachable cable.
There are many better headphones out there but almost all of them cost more. They fill a budget niche, like this phone is aimed to do. I don't know why you're ranting about counterfeit goods. Most counterfeit goods come from China but that doesn't mean that every Chinese product is an imitator or on imitator quality-levels. Every other phone is made in China, and there are Chinese companies that sell very solid products like Lenovo. This phone is merely a budget option.
Personally I'm excited. Getting a top of the line, $600 phone (or $200 with a $100 a month plan) is just not feasible for me in the next few years. The specs/price of this phone sounds awesome.
Im probably not using the right words, but this is what i was trying to say:

Call it a waste of money or what ever you like but I like getting the best bang for my buck. Alot of these cheap phones skip out on the important stuff. The ppi on that phone is probably less then 300 and the camera is maybe subpar.
CECT is a brand, not all their phones look like iPhones, but you usually find CECT making stuff like this which goes for $115. (link to ebay AU page http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/i9300-MTK6515-1GHz-CPU-Dual-SIM-Android-4-0-Smartphone-Mobile-Phone-3MP-Cam-WiFi-/121051887478?pt=AU_Mobile_Phones&hash=item1c2f413776&_uhb=1#ht_4806wt_914
Reason it's so cheap imo:
Not made by a proper brand (like Samsung)
320x480 screen (they claim it as HD)
No 4G support (i believe the S3 supports 4G), this phone has EDGE according to the listing.
1Ghz Dual Core CPU ("MTK6515: Cortex A9 (Armv7) CPU at 1 GHz / GPU: PowerVR SGX 531 or Mali-300 / not 3G compatible" - WikiPedia)
Comes with 2 batteries (easily an indication that one battery wont get you through the day)
Dual sim (eeehhh...?)
Just my 2 cents, you might not agree, and we can agree to disagree.
I probably failed at getting it across earlier without anything to back me up, but the above points i mentioned is why the Non Branded or "China Phones" are so cheap. People in '08 might have liked a phone with a 320x480 screen with a 3MP Camera, but hey, if you dont mind using it nowadays and you don't want to fork our hundreds to buy a Samsung, HTC, LG or whatever, then by all means you can pick up a phone like that for $115.
