Pay for a real antivirus like everybody else, and you won't have such problems.

Problems with viruses come down to one thing, almost all of the time: user ineptitude. Based on what you're saying, vtech1, you don't have the technical know-how to do any of this. Please, pay for someone else to do the job for you, I can guarantee that you will cause more damage than good.
With all due respect, if you feel like that, keep it to yourself. We come to overclock.net to learn new things and meet new people, starting as people who know nothing, growing to people who know much more. We try to do things ourselves, but when we run in to problems, we always have a large "family" to come back to. As you were not accusing me of wrong-doing, I still find your post unnecessary.

I don't use neither one of them, I use McAfee Security Suite 2006 and it works perfectly, it's not a ressource hog for me and it does its job, at least get Norton antivirus. You better spend an extra 49.99$ and get yourself McAfee Security 2007. I also bought Spyware Doctor, it's excellent. Combine a Antivirus, with a Firewall, with a spyware remover, then you are all set, and that's not more than $80 total, even less. We aren't really here to meet people, this is not singles.com or something, here, we know what we are talking about, and we help people.

Just imagine, the guy says that his PC gets 100% CPU load when going to desktop, how would you want him to run all these progams? Even one by one, it would take a week, because it's nice to have the program, but what to do with it? And I do not think everything stated is required. Go download Spyware doctor trial version, even if it requires you to buy to remove, you can still look up the path of the spyware, and remove it manually. But before you do anything, a smart thing to do is to delete temporary files, and temporary internet files. That can remove some infections already. For the rest, try the program I stated:

I don't think my post is too harsh, especially considering what we're discussing here. I'll agree with you, there is a certain family aspect to overclock.net. One of respect and learning, which vtech1 is certainly not participating in. Nonsense, like half of this thread, belongs in an AOL chatroom, not overclock.net. You could say I'm trying to preserve the environment of overclock.net by attempting to eliminate the discussion of piracy. Feel free to go looking through my other posts, you'll find that the only time I am ever "mean" to anyone is with good reason.

Your aspect of respect and learning: How is vtech1 not willing to learn? He, his own person, not you, believes in this software reviving his hard drive, piracy or not. Why? Because he is in a desperate situation. Now, granted, the virus may be his fault, but does that mean you have to keep accusing him of that? Now, in my opinion, that is wasting posts (which I realize we are doing in off topic discussion). Instead, use that post to help fix the problem and present ways to prevent this in the future.

Edit: vtech1, Forgive me if you are female as I used the word he in place of your name, not she. If you are male, then there is nothing to worry about is there?
