Because he is in a desperate situation. Now, granted, the virus may be his fault, but does that mean you have to keep accusing him of that? Now, in my opinion, that is wasting posts (which I realize we are doing in off topic discussion). Instead, use that post to help fix the problem and present ways to prevent this in the future.

Edit: vtech1, Forgive me if you are female as I used the word he in place of your name, not she. If you are male, then there is nothing to worry about is there?
He may be willing to learn, but the method of going about it certainly isn't respectful. I'm somewhat prejudiced towards AOL kiddies, I don't view their attitude as a respectful one. Sort of like ripping a dictionary to shreds during an English class. I haven't accused vtech1 of inflicting viruses upon himself, my statement was a general one that applied to most virii.

And now for something helpful: Ultimate Boot CD (http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/) will accomplish almost all of what Hiren's BootCD will, while being entirely legal. Download the iso, burn it, insert the burned CD into your computer, reboot, change the boot order in your BIOS to boot from the CD drive first, run the antivirus applications on the CD, reboot when finished, change the boot order back, boot into safe mode, remove any pesky files, reboot again, and see how it looks.

My apologies if I offended you, vtech1, that wasn't my intent. I do not, however, regret the apparently strong words in my posts.

1. take out you HD, being more active makes it worse
2. get another HD install O/s, anti virus, ad-ware from lavesoft, get my MS Defender, its free and stops ad ware from spearding.
3. install Old HD as a slave, scan it old hd
4. Remove new hd, make sure you have the anti virus, anti ad wares scanner ready to install, try going into safe mode to install some apps may not install,
After that use hijackthis and post.

R-Studio NTFS can do it, if the drive is ok, what type of drive and do you have a fan blowing on it? a virus or program can kill a drive, when your recover the info if you can restore on another drive

No the drive is simply being accessed and accessed again by your little friends as the attempt to forward themselves to open ports...
I didn't read this whole thread as the bashing got started...lol
Ok...let's start with a screenshot of your Taskmanager...ok?
Most viroidal appz nowadays will attempt to shut down your system if you kill their process...that means that system files have already been compromised.
So you don't want to reboot if at all necessary...
Second...go into your hard drive properties>disk cleanup> and clean it and delete all the other system restore points simply because if you have rebooted...the thing(s) have embedded themselves into your restore point(s).
Do that and prepare yourself...
