I sold an broken laptop on ebay once and needed to wipe the drive. First off all don't do anything "physical" to the disk: eg. microwaves, heat, I've seen some stupid ideas out there...

The way I've done it before is to use Linux. Linux formatting seems to work fast and efficient and completely wipes everything off of a hard drive. Do it over a few times to be certain. But I like what the guys above are recommending, I've never actually heard of that program but they are correct, if you write all zero's to the HD it will be completely wiped (and trust me I've taken computer forensics in college) thumb.gif
