I Think My PS3 is Screwed Up, Please Help Me! :(

So the morning after I finished downloading Armored Kill for BF3, I went on my PS3 so I could play some Battlefield 3, but I noticed something wierd, the disk icon for it wasn't appearing on the XMB, I checked to see if the disc itself was physically inside the PS3 and indeed it was, this really confused me and pissed me off as I have been waiting all night for Armored Kill to download so I could finally mess around with the AC-130 and a couple of friends it's pretty convenient how my PS3 just self destructs today. rolleyes.gif

The next day I take it to a local gaming shop where they say that they fix consoles and other stuff, I brought it to them, told the guy that I will probably be needing a new blu-ray drive for my PS3, he then goes on to say that he'll open it up and take a look and see if that actually is the problem. So I leave the PS3 with them and go walk around the mall for a bit then when it's time to come home, I go back to the shop to find out what's wrong with my PS3, the guy says that it's possibly the lens and it'll cost $100 to fix, I was taken a back as I didn't think spending $100 to get such an old piece of technology working again was a wise decision, so I took my PS3 back and went home.

I fired it up to play some games I have downloaded from the PSN Store a couple of weeks ago only to find out that once I selected them, the screen would remain 'blank' (it's black) and then it would go completely black and just stay that way, this really puzzled me as I played a couple of games on my PS3 after finding out that it wouldn't detect disks anymore in order to rule out the possibility that my CPU/GPU were broken as well, but the games on my hard drive worked fine before I brought it in to get 'fixed'.

I really have no idea what to do anymore, any advice/help at all would be greatly appreciated!

Info about my PS3:
Storage: 40GB or 60GB (can't remember as I upgraded the hard drive to an 80GB one.)
Form Factor: 'Fat'

Try checking the hard drive and make sure that it's connected firmly. As for your blu-ray drive, try cleaning the lens.

Ah, you seem to be using a PS3 instead of a PC. It's a rather easy fix.

Yeah but I don't really see the point in investing $200 into a new one, I'm hoping to fix this for as little as possible so my friends and I have something to play with when they come over.

Don't worry about this anymore, I've fixed it, turns out the 'technician' left a 4-pin power cable connecting the Blu-Ray drive to the motherboard unplugged. rolleyes.gif

But I've found out the my Blu-Ray drive is borked, now I'm trying to find a defective PS3 to swap it out with. biggrin.gif
