Wow is extremely CPU heavy and pretty much the worst case scenario for that combination of hardware. Try something like a Source game or even Crysis 1 and see how that runs.

maybe the 9800GT or radeon HD4890 would be ok, but has some ppl said, changing for a lower card won't benefit you.

Okay i will have to "DL" Crysis 1 then and check.

@Kedas: I know, i do. But why have a V8 GPU with a 4 1/2 Cylinder CPU? lol Like a 2500K @ 4Ghz and a GTX 580 OR a P4 521 HT and a 8600GTS I would rather be GPU limited a little then CPU limited smile.gif

Why would you rather be GPU limited confused.gif Besides CPU/GPU load ratio differs from game to game and your CPU and GPU is not at all as miss matched as you seam to think.

Cause i can always turn down graphics...i can't turn down Game Engines for the CPU.

Well, ignore my ignorance if there is any guys, i just didn't think a E6700 would not be able to keep up with a 9800GX2, so i feel like i wasted a good bit of money on the 9800GX2 and the CPU won't use it all. I will be playing WoW, NFS, Minecraft and maybe some Battlefield? oh and i will FOLD, on this PC so i want good performance.

All i mean by getting a more suitable GPU for the CPU is i don't want to waste the 9800GX2 potential and would rather get a better CPU to go with it. So yes WoW is CPU bound and Crysis would be GPU bound, but what is a good game i can play that is better for this PC? Barbie land? lol (Just kidding)

WoW CPU heavy and Minecraft runs pretty much only on the CPU. NFS and Battlefield should be able to make pretty good use of the 9800GX2. You can FOLD on the GPU's and the CPU but thous work independently from another as you use separate folding clients for the CPU and GPU's. I don't know what you consider "a good bit of money" but a 9800GX2 is even at its best not worth more then 40-$50 and a more "well suited" card like the 8800 GTS would set you back 25-$30.

That being said your CPU is definitely next inline for a upgrade. Depending on what revision your mobo is you could potentially drop in a top range Yorkfield and that could take you up to decent speed DX11 cards like the 560Ti.

Considering your using a core 2 quad and Wow is system bandwidth intensive, You aren't going to see your 580 utilised, The FSB will bottlekneck world of warcraft like all buggery, I know this to be plain fact i went from an

E8500 + 9600GT sli and got stuttery 20-30 fps in raids to a Phenom II x2 550 3.2ghz same setup same ram same HDD's same version of windows to a smooth 50-60 fps in raids.

Then with the same 9600gt's i went to a 2600k and got close to 80 in raids before upgrading as they wouldn't really go any higher, The main differance? No FSB

EDit: Looks at second sig rig, See's core 2 duo, Same rule still applies, core 2 series sucked for world of warcraft.

*face-palm* I don't see how a 4.2GHz Quad Q9550 could hold back WoW when it only uses 2 Threads and 52% of my CPU.

Yes the Back-Up rig is where the E6700 and GX2 sit at.

My Q9550 and GX2 works nicely together, but the GX2 and E6700 does not... My E6700 and a old 7950GX2 worked great, but the 9800GX2 doesn't do as good? Maybe more of a Bottleneck?

Well my Back-Up Rig can only take a E6700 at 2.66Ghz due to the OEM Mobo. and my Q9550 is maxed at 4.2GHz at a Safe-ish Vcore. Guess i will just keep the GX2 in the Back-Up rig and Fold or game some while my GTX 580 is Folding smile.gif

Oh and the FSB? I am at almost 500FSB, so i don't see how their could be a Bottleneck on that. lol

Again it doesn't matter how high your FSB is, It will still bottlekneck wow because it has to continously switch between memory and gpu, This is the inherent problem when it comes to world of warcraft as it has high random access usage to the system ram aswell as high random cpu usage but only moderate gpu usage, As such the phenoms dropkicked the core 2 duos and core 2 quads.

To put things in perspective the FSB is like a set of traffic lights only it switches very very fast, The DMI, QPI and HT link are a highway with on off ramps so no switching is required, Thats why the phenoms and even low clocked gen 1 core i series cpu's smacked core 2 quads and core 2 duos around in mmorpgs

+ Having the memory controller ondie helped alleviate any problems with it.

Edit: Because of this i would actually suggest using the GTX 580 over the 9800GX2, While the 580 will saturate the bus more then the 9800GX2 is, It will put less "load" on the cpu itself since it's a single gpu card not a dual gpu card, And you'll be able to run downsampling or overkill AA with the 580, That is since your using a core 2 duo.

Depending on a few things you could prob get away with a BSEL mod on that E6700.

Well i think i will just keep my 580 in my Main Rig and if i do get a NEw CPU, i will need a NEw Mobo, RAM and of course CPU...that's not cheap lol My next CPU will be a...2600K/2700K? (Yes i could use the HT for Folding and Server work)

Bottom line is if a 9800GT or 8800 Ultra would be a better match for Overall performance of my Back-Up PC then i might try that and put the 9800GX2 on my shelf for Collectors sake or throw her into my Main rig for Physx and Folding...
