Thread Starter
hi guys,

this is prob gonna sound silly but im gonna ask it anyway.
i have just noticed that i have amd dual core optimizer installed on my pc, im am not sure how it got there but i think it was installed when i installed batman arkham city?

my question is do i need it? i have windows 7 and i also have a amd piledriver 8350 so it has 8 cores. will i get any benefits from having it or should i uninstall it.

like i said it sounds a silly question i know because i have 8 cores, its been installed for a while now without me knowing and my games have been playing fine.

I have it also, I installed it for the sake of it.... Even though I don't know what perks it's giving me with a Phenom X6, I'd say it's best to leave it thumb.gif

Just a note though, AMD Dual Core optimizer was released in 2008 from what I believe, and was mainly made for Windows XP, Not sure what the benefits of having it on Windows 7

I don't think you need it. Isn't that only for WinXP (if I remember right)?

Yup, Windows XP. It may help with compatibility issues with games that was designed for Windows XP though. Only a guess though.

Pasted from readme .rtf (1.1.4 is the latest version):

> AMD Dual-Core Optimizer
>
> Release Notes For
> Version 1.1.4
>
> July 18, 2008
>
> ---General Description---
>
> AMD Dual-Core Optimizer utility synchronizes Time Stamp Counter (TSC) MSRs on AMD Dual-Core Processors.
>
> ---Improvement and Fixes---
> Version 1.1.4
> * Fixed installation issue on Windows Vista.
> ...
> This software installs and operates under the following operating systems
> * Microsoft® Windows® XP
> * Microsoft Windows Server 2003
> * Microsoft Windows Vista

So basically it seems one doesn't need it for Win7 or above.

It is not meant for Win7 or fore more than dual-core AMD CPUs, BUT

I have seen it do some magic on Win7 + tri-core Athlon, and Win7 + dual-core Intel. So best leave it, other software might depend on it.
