7.2 Hi-Fi Home Theater, help me choose components and vote, please :)

In september 2012 i wanted to buy something from Hi-Fi world, it's ended up with shop list, but doubled the final cost.

So after many problems, new apartment plans and other stuff everything goes on Hi-Fi road biggrin.gif

Now i'm searching for the best components to 7k$ for everything.

The room is 14 square meters, new room will be probably 20 or more with sound absorbing panels (simple flat panels, to look like a normal room)

Targets: alive and clear sound for movies and music 70\50. Music is rock\metal\house and other. So....something universal.

Only bookshelf speakers with enough bass are acceptable. Too much bass not needed at all. Just to sound in tact with subwoofers, not like two different bass and no bass zones.

Subwoofers: fast enough, not bigger than 12" inch

Source: HDMI port from nVidia GPU with HD codecs onboard

Shoplist by now:

A\V Receiver: Yamaha RX-A2020

Speaker pairs: 3x Magnat Quantum 803 or 3x Heco Celan GT-302

Center channel: sure Magnat or Heco, depends on series

Subwoofers: 2x Velodyne EQ-Max 12 or 2x M&K SB-1250 (1250 only if shop will make small discount biggrin.gif)

Final cost...something similar, hard to say price of components in your countries because i'm living in Russia

Thanks in advance to all who will vote for or change components in the list thumb.gif

If your room is conditioned, there is absolutely no reason to have two subwoofers. In fact, adding the second subwoofer can screw up your soundstage. Having two subwoofers is never necessary and only desired if you have spots around your room with standing waves or dead zones; if you condition against this (like you say you are), then you've eliminated any reason for a second sub.

7.1ch surround is a marketing gimic. There is nothing real called 7.1ch surround, it is just 5.1ch with split up surrounds to try to help compensate for poorly layed-out rooms. If you've setup this room specifically for home theater and listening, save the money on the extra two speakers and put it into getting better mains.

I've not personally heard either of those company's speakers, so I cannot comment on them, but with a budget of 7k, you really ought to think about floor-standers. Usually speaker companies put more effort into their flagship and high-end floorstanders than their bookshelves (there are some exceptions). In that price range, I would probably include the B&W CM-9 / CM series on my listening list.

I hope you have a local hi-fi audio store where you can go into properly setup listening rooms and compare and listen to music on various speakers and electronics. No one else will hear things quite the same as you yourself, and that's extremely important especially when looking for a true high fidelity setup. Also, look for audiophile forums that are heavily trafficed because a lot of them have boards where you can find someone near you that is using a set of speakers that you may want to hear and are open to you visiting their house to give them a listen before you drop wads of cash on them.

Ok, new facts))

I have now simple 7.1 (Creative GigaWorks S750, about 6-7 years already)

upmix from 5.1 to 7.1 makes difference in films and games

virtualized music from stereo to 7 channels sounds incredible too!

no, i don't have any local Hi-Fi stores so i can't hear any top speaker sets

no, near at me probably nobody using that forums and same audio systems..... even company, which was making HF speakers (i don't want that models) by own, now looks closed.

no, i don't have any place for floor speakers now and will have no plave later, probably.

no, floor speakers are not acceptable because of multi dynamics and needed distance before them.

yes, i need 2 subwoofers because they are sitting at the left and right sides of my desk with triple monitors and etc. one will make....bass from one side not close to me. need the stereo clone effect on both sides.

So....the only thing i have is people's choice and reviews rolleyes.gif

I already spend a lot of time by searching, comparing, collecting info for everything to work without any problems.

So i just need the last opinion by people and Hi-Fi users.

P.S: B&W CM-9 is 5000$ in Moscow.

Even if choose the floor speakers, i need THREE pairs. Not floor + bookshelf, only the same speakers for all sides.

Thanks for your answer!

7.1 is not a gimmick.

does SVS ship to Russia?

http://www.svsound.com/subwoofers/cylinder

Rythmik subwoofers are really good too.

http://www.rythmikaudio.com/products.html

I also recommend going with dipole surrounds instead of monopole. try and find bookshelf speakers with ribbon tweeters.

I don't think spending all your money on a receiver is a good idea. the Yamaha RX-A2020 is $1500 USD. what I would do is go with separates (eg. $500 receiver with pre-outs and $1000 multi-channel power amplifier)

Multi-channel amp will cost much higher. Also AVR from Yamaha will make my life easier with many HDMI ports onboard)

SVS height is...shipping killer. Also models from my price point is'nt much better then Velodyne or M&K.

I agree with everything said here. Think about it, with the money saved buying 2 less speakers and only 1 sub, you'll have overall higher quality. Why are you spending so much on the amp?

The speakers should be getting at least like 60% of your budget, so with an $800 sub and amp bumped down to around $1k.

Here's how I would budget:
$2k each for front towers
$500-1k for matching center
$500-1k for 2 surrounds
$800-1k for sub
$1k for amp

Sample setup with US prices:
2x Mirage OMD-28 Floorstanding $4k
Mirage OMD-C1 Center speaker $500
2x Mirage OMD-R Surrounds $1000
Velodyne sub $800
Yamaha RX-A820 $850

just remember receivers are value boxes. they cut a lot of corners to keep the prices down. its always better go with a surround sound processor, video processor and multi-channel power amplifier. I don't like Yamaha proprietary technology so I usually go with a Denon or Marantz unit.

Thanks, but i need THE SAME speakers in the surround. So all bookshelf or floorstanding. All bookshelf in my case.

bumblebee1980 Yamaha is one of the best manufactures, with maybe some specific sound, but other stuff inside is great.
