Windows 7 Student Discount?

Thread Starter
Hey guys, I am a college student, and I need windows 7 for a pc I am building. I can't seem to find anywhere that offers it with a student discount anymore. I can't even really buy it through Microsoft anymore, as they are just pushing windows 8.

So my question is, how can I get my hands on a copy for cheap!?

don't you try the student program of microsoft? kindly ask your professors about it to include you in the program. I think MS are giving student partners free windows 7 professional.

The school I attend offers us free windows7 installs on our PCs(mostly aimed toward laptops). I know we could also get win7 on disks for a little bit of money~$20 if we were planning on doing the install ourselves. The program they get it through used to be called eAcademy I think. They switched over to something called Kivuto which I am not familiar with. If your school has a computing help center I would go ask them, they should know if it is available through your school or not.

http://www.onthehub.com/

This is the website we use now I do believe. There is a section where you can find your school to see if it is enrolled in the program. My school is enrolled in DreamSpark Premium currently.

If I am not allowed to post this link please let me know and I will take it down.

My school is actually listed there with DreamSpark. I don't know how to log in, or how to become registered with it though.

you have to ask your professor for a log in.

The days of numerous ways to get Win 7 at a steep discount started disappearing over a year ago.If you get your Win 7 totally at no cost it is probably related to the eAcademy or the MSDN program. If it is from MSDN or eAcademy the OS is for your use only and cannot be sold.I have seen some pretty good discounts through the bookstore (imagine that) at my school.

I have found it at my bookstore for 50 bucks but thats for the upgrade version, I need the full thing. Looks like I might just have to fork out 100 bucks. I just feel like there has to be another way.

Signing up for the basic tier of DreamSpark isn't difficult, you just need a .edu email address. Thing is, the basic DreamSpark tier doesn't offer OS disks at a discount, that's an additional premium tier that schools sign up for, and generally the schools that have signed up for the premium tier only offer it to the kids that are majoring in CompSci, IT, or a related field.
