Windows Reinstall

Thread Starter
My pc currently is set up as IDE for my hard drive but I got a new SSD and I need to convert it to AHCI. I know there are ways to modify the reg in windows 7 to change it but that's not the solution I'm looking for. My HDD is a 1TB with my windows install and all my programs. I've also been having infrequent crashes so I want to add the SSD as my OS drive and keep the HDD for programs and data but I want to start with a fresh install of windows. What I would like to do though is not have to format my HDD and reinstall the programs. Is there a way to transfer all my programs to a back up drive and put them back once I've formatted added the SSD and switched over to AHCI.
90% of my programs are games from steam so if I do have to reinstall I would at least not have to redownload them again. So would there be a way to back up the data files from steam?
Thanks :tumbs:

If you clone the hard drive you shouldnt have to reinstall the os or programs. If you do a fresh install you will have to reinstall the programs as far as I know.

Regarding your steam games, just make sure you back up the steam apps folder so you don't have to reinstall any of them.
