1280 x 800

GTX 660 Ti - 88
HD 7970 - 93
HD 7970 Ghz - 100
GTX 680 - 101

this is with latest drivers and in fact newer games like farcry 3 added. the HD 7950 boost will be on par or slightly ahead as its just 3% slower than HD 7970 according to the previous review. But in the really demanding games where you need the extra power and bandwidth the HD 7950 will walk all over the GTX 660 Ti.

Right, but you just proved that the 660 Ti is the better buy than the vanilla 7950 at the resolution that frickfrock is using. rolleyes.gif

But when the HD 7950 boost is selling for the same price (in fact lesser) why would someone buy the HD 7950(800 mhz) . thumb.gif

add to it the HD 7950 boost comes with crysis 3 and bioshock infinite. Its a much better buy.

add to it the HD 7950 boost comes with crysis 3 and bioshock infinite. Its a much better buy.

Cheapest HD 7950 boost: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161420 - $289.99 (LOL! It just sold out. Cheapest one is now $294.99)

Cheapest GTX 660 Ti: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121656 -$279.99 ($259.99 after rebate)

Also, that GTX 660 Ti is overclocked from the factory, so that will completely offset the Boost's slight clock advantage over a basic 7950. On top of that, you can get an even higher spec'd 660 Ti for $10-20 more pretty easily. The games are a temporary bonus that's cool, but unless you just NEED those games, it's a moot point. Also, Nvidia has a few features that make their cards appealing as well (if you're in to that.)

It should also be known that the 7950 boosts do not overclock any higher than the standard 7950's so what's the point in getting the boost if you can find a regular 7950 cheaper?

I mean, we can continue to argue about this all day long, but they are both appealing cards. Let's just leave it at that, ok? thumb.gif

agreed. If the OP likes the Nvidia features like PhysX, adaptive sync and the lower power consumption the GTX 660 Ti is a good buy. If he wants the best performance in all cases (demanding games with MSAA or SSAA) and likes the game bundle he can go with HD 7950 boost. another thing with HD 7950 boost is the OP has to see which cards fit in his case.

since you have GTX 660 Ti try Metro 2033 with DOF and MSAA, Sleeping Dogs Extreme AA, Crysis/ Crysis Warhead 8x MSAA. Compare with HD 7950 boost users. you will know.

At a res of 1440x900, that simply will not matter. That's the point we're discussing here, right?

Believe me, I understand where you're coming from, but you're taking circumstances that do not matter in this case, and you're trying to make them matter. It just doesn't work in this instance. I applaud you for trying, but it really is not necessary.

I will reiterate what I said earlier; we can continue to argue about this all day long, but they are both appealing cards. Let's just leave it at that, ok? thumb.gif
