Will my fx 8320 bottleneck a radeon hd 7970? - Page 10

From personal experience, FX-8120@3.6Ghz would consistently max out a 7950 (55-70 fps, don't remember GPU clocks or precise video settings sadly, wasn't my system) @1080p at BF3 (kharg and caspian 64 mostly). I can even run this game @720p on low/medium textures/2x/SSAO on my o/c Llano/6650M cheap laptop and get 33-45 fps. Skyrim/NV yes, I can see a bottleneck occuring there on an FX as they probably both use x87 fpu code for which AMD doesn't seem to care about much as it is old history.

Type /Render.PerfOverlayVisible 1 to switch on cpu/gpu graphs and play a multiplayer run. You may have an unstable overclock.

I tried without clock, have lags in these games so far: Mafia 2, Mass Effect 2, Borderlands 1 - 2, Skyrim, Fallout, Dishonored, Metro 2033, BF3, The Witcher 1, Sleeping Dogs.

I had some with Far Cry 3 too.

Well..

You mean low performance or bottleneck? Mafia 2,Bordlerlands 1-2, Metro 2033 all use PhysX which can get screwy if you don't use an nvidia card. But again , BL1,ME2 and Witcher 1 are old games now (I get very good perormane on those on my lowly laptop), there is something very wrong going on with your system if you lag there with an 8120 and a 7950 maybe a virus or defective parts. Bottleneck is indeed expected on Skyrim/Fallout NV. Haven't played dishonored at all. Sleeping Dogs is a resources hog, check this thread:

http://www.overclock.net/t/1333027/amd-fx-8350-vs-i5-3570k-delidded-single-gpu-and-crossfire-gpu

both 3570k and FX-8350 are clocked at 4.8 and still drop all the way to 32-33 fps at some point.

Not again that flame war. Its simple. If you play rts games or pretty bad console ports(skyrim) yeah you will get bottleneck. But even an intel cpu bottleneck in some situtations. Otherwise no you will be fine with some mild oc.

The processor that OC'd highest was an AMD, i don't see the problem there. The clocks with AMD is usually higher than Nvidia/Intel.

Since 7950 can perform as good as 680's with just a little screwing with the clock.

As far as i know Intel and AMD are pretty even? AMD is just the cheaper counterpart.. As always.
