So far the best bang for buck CPU i've seen is the model up @ Tiger Direct. which is the AMD FX-8350 4GHz.
It's score is 9155 which is equivalent to the i7s in the Range$ 300.

Right now It's on sale too for 185$ Shipped where it's normally $225 shipped.

Look at the benchmark list here:
http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_list.php

FX-8320 is a better deal if you are overclocking since both are multiplier unlocked and from the results I've seen reported here in the forums, each overclock virtually to the same speeds.

People on the fence should hold out until next month. Fudzilla reported a price drop coming in April on the FX-8320. Also new Vishera 2.0 CPU refresh is rumored to be launching this June.

no. no. and a hell No. Passmark is as useful as running Norton Utilities Benchmark. FX-8320 is the bang for buck king.
Quote:
Passmark uses x87 IIRC. x87 was dropped from the actual AMD hardware with one of the K10 architectures. i.e. an 8350FX runs Passmark entirely in software instructions. Intel really only keeps it in there for CPU benchmarks --the OSes that used it heavily are all virtualized at this point.

In short any "similar results" on an archaic instruction set like x87 are a telltale sign of just how much faster an 8350FX is to a 3770K. - Dillweed

AMD FX-8150 shows up in Passmark CPU benchmark

Passmark is about as reliable as WEI

I'm beginning to see the reason for the weirdness in Passmark results. One of the benchmarks rely on ancient x87 (floating point) which has been not been further developed/endorsed by Intel since Pentium4 (while it seems AMD is still strong with this legacy instructions). Another is that benchmark measuring integer performance which has been Intel's strong point in IPC jump from Conroe. Then there's the SSE performance, which AMD is still subpar compared to Intel? Some of these may explain the way the CPUs are ranked

edit: ElectricPrism you have too look to non-US hardware review sites to see how overclock AMD CPUs perform.

The only thing I have noticed about my FX6300 is that the drivers aren't as good as Intel. On my i7 I have literally 0 ISRs and very low DPC latency. On my AMD system I have 4000+ ISRs and DPC latency around 1ms. I've been trying to get the issue fixed, but nothing I do helps.

I've noticed the same. I don't know if it matters though, but the numbers don't look good. Day to day though, my FX8350-system doesn't feel any different to my i7 3770-system at work.
And I guess you have heard about the price cuts AMD is planning for april, the 8320, 6300 and 4300 seems to be included in that.

I notice a difference when playing Diablo 3, Borderlands 2, and Tomb Raider. They have a slight stutter to the gameplay and it's not the video card drivers. I am downgrading the OS to windows 7 again, to see if that fixes the problem.
