Solid build. A few suggestions:

- Change mobo to the UD3H which supports SLI too & has higher quality components for oc'ing. Cheaper too tongue.gif

- Total power consumption is less than 300w. The Capstone 450M is on the same level as the Seasonic G & cheaper. Review (same platform)

- I own the WD Black & its very noisy (& expensive) plus its only 500GB. The WD Blue is just as fast and 1TB for a lot less.

- Found the same memory cheaper.

Thanks! REP+

A couple questions...

How difficult is a mail in rebate?
What's different about the WD Blue 1TB as apposed to the black... and btw I was gonna get the 1TB black (It's cheaper as well).

Cheers!

4 Things first,
1. Your processor and graphics card are outdated, why do you want a new computer with stuff that's almost 2 generations old.
2. Samsung 840 (NON PRO) ssds are terrible. There's a reason the pro version is $40 more.
3. A sound card that cheap will make ZERO difference.
4. Your monitors come with DVI cables..

Here's a list I took the time to put together that has cheaper/better components, and a few more expensive but the performance warrants the cost and it should still be cheaper. If I had the money right now, I'd buy this exact computer, except with a 7950.

CPU: Amd FX-8350: http://goo.gl/eTnPh (Cheaper than your 2500k, and competes with the 3770k a $330 cpu.)

Cooler: Enermax ETS-T40-TB CPU Cooler: http://goo.gl/8nfnF (Worth every penny over the Hyper 212, And the included thermal paste is among the best.)

Graphics Card: XFX 7870 2GB (Lifetime Warranty): http://goo.gl/qLQ0V (So much better than that 560)

Motherboard: ASUS M5A97 R2.0 AM3+ AMD 970: http://goo.gl/4Lz4Z (Good reliable motherboard with decent features)

Ram: Crucial DDR3 1600mhz 8GB (2x4GB): http://goo.gl/DKsJF (Ram is ram as long as its reliable, which this is.)

Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 1TB: http://goo.gl/qqhPt (I have a 500gb WD Black and this, I can't tell a difference in performance, so why pay more.)

SSD: Kingston HyperX 3k 120GB SSD: http://goo.gl/6uwNQ (Very good/fast/reliable SSD)

Power Supply: Rosewill 650w 80+ Bronze: http://goo.gl/A0HLB (Don't listen to that guy, power supplies lose their oomph over time, and having a little more than you need is better, + if you need more later you don't have to upgrade.)

CASE: Antec Stainless Case: http://goo.gl/h7lm0 (Keep your case you choose obviously tongue.gif)

DVD DRIVE: Samsung DVD Burner: http://goo.gl/cAv1c (Might get used once or twice for most people)

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium: http://goo.gl/y9mDs (And keep your windows 7, cheaper than amazon with the $10 off code at the bottom of my post)

Monitors: http://goo.gl/jzyKs x2 (Your monitors are fine, but if you want bigger better ones, see the link below.)
23" 2ms 50,000,000 Contrast 1080p LED Monitors: http://goo.gl/9YJBS

Keyboard and Mouse: http://goo.gl/kJwmC (Keyboard and Mouse are fine, i'd get better but its just preference.)

Speakers: Klipsch Promedia 2.1 Speakers: http://goo.gl/o5fEL, ($100 less than the bose + you get a subwoofer, I gaurantee 1000% you'll like these better.)thumb.gif

EDIT #2: Sound Card: ASUS Xonar DS 7.1: http://goo.gl/ObDmW (For a sound card you'll actually be able to tell you're using.)

TOTAL: $1450-$1580 (including the monitors I choose.)(not including rebates)(There's $70 worth of mail-in rebates)

EDIT IMPORTANT: For everything that's above $60 on newegg, purchase it seperately and use the code, "NEWCUSTOMER" for $10 off.
IE: CPU, Processor, Hard Drive, SSD, Monitors, OS, Video Card, Power Supply - Purchase all these seperately for $90 off. I don't work for newegg or anything, I just saw that promotion about a week ago and haven't seen any ads for it lately, I just tested the code and its working.

^^^ 5 things first
1 Don't listen to trapix
2 The 2500k is fine its only 1 generation behind and Ivy Bridge is only 15% faster so tongue.gif
3 What are you ON, the 840 is fine. the only differences are in benchmarks
4 Agreed You should spend at least $50 on a sound card or it won't be very much better than built in audio
5 Not all monitors, but after a quick google search I can confirm that this one does.
6 The build is fine, don't let trapix coach you into buying amd the fanboy

All new quality PSUs are rated to work for 100k hours under full load @ 50c. So in theory you're right, but only after 10-12 years of 24/7 usage under 100% load.

If this is a "gaming" rig I would save up 150 more dollars and get a 7950. That is after my experience when I built my first gaming rig. 6870 in crossfire just werent close enough to keep up with new games, bought 7870 was ok at new games, then got a 680/7970 lol.

i5 2500k is fine but since your buying off amazon I would get the 3570k for 10 bucks more.

Motherboard I would get a http://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-CrossFireX-DispayPort-Motherboard-GA-Z77X-UD3H/dp/B007R21JJK/ref=sr_1_4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1360344081&sr=1-4&keywords=z77+motherboard.

. SSD 840 is fine. Case cant say anything about. Sound card is meh, im not an audiophile so im fine with my boards built in sound lol. Ram is fine as well.

So all in all if this is a gaming rig I would spend more on the GFX card then anything. If your paying amazon price for the 2500k I would get the 3570k instead. ( only if the 2500k was like 150-180 price range.)

Thanks both of you! I mainly got the sound card for more inputs... I will definitely think about getting a nice one. I've already been through so many revisions on this build... so I'm solid on a lot of stuff.

Traphix: I know my speakers... Bose has better quality hands down and I already have a Sub-woofer. I produce music so I also have AI's and Studio Monitors (M-Audio BX5's) So I'm pretty solid there. "Graphics Card: XFX 7870 2GB (Lifetime Warranty): http://goo.gl/qLQ0V (So much better than that 560)" Is this compatible with the CPU and Motherboard I already have? I don't need anything incredible... this is supposed to be a budget build but it has gotten a bit out of hand. smile.gif When it comes to DVI cables I just want some better quality ones... + it never hurts to have some extra cables lying around.

elitekills999: Thanks a lot. I know the 2500k is fine... but is the AMD that Traphix suggested better... is it compatible with my Motherboard, RAM, and everything else?

Thanks All! smile.gif

The 8350 is faster than the 2500k in some tests and with both chips at stock speeds. http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/697?vs=288

But honestly, with your budget I'd be looking at the 3570k. There's really no reason to go with the 2500k now.

And if you're doing music production, won't you be using a USB audio interface? That would negate the need for a dedicated sound card, as the audio interface would be the sound card.
