Like sin said, it does more.. few of the ME releases have included the document with it and shows what it does. Some of it is freaking code that you'd need to be a programmer or something to understand but you do get a general idea at least.

Now that said, afterwards you'll have few new services, I don't believe you need them running to be able to benefit from it (unless you need all that remote stuff). I think there might be few more (this comes to mind: Intel(R) Capability Licensing Service Interface) but I just put them to manual.
