I also ran everything maxed, and was capped at the 60 fps limit the game set (even though I have a 120hz monitor.. grr!) that with my previous generation nvidia card (gtx 560 ti)

It will be really interesting to play the full blown version as the beta really had limited various aspects and it seemed that it generally took some time for areas to become medium density.
Right, but what if you don't want a solid grid of high rise buildings? SC4 was awesome because you could get a bunch of sprawl going; suburbs, small apartments, strip malls, etc. The maps we've seen so far in SC5 are so small you can't do any of that without running out of space really fast.

everyone will always want moar though, isn't that a sign of success?

Have you looked at the video's from the dev's the cities look fine big enough to me. The Beta is restricting you to a small city size . in the proper game there will be a selector for you to choose city size when you start it. Betas are betas
post #55 of 64
The biggest thing beta is restricted on is there is zero high-density options. Since they changed zoning to be dependent on roads with only the 3 types of zones, not having anything better than medium density avenues/roads prevents you from getting high populations. In the two runthroughs where I focused on one city, I had 19k and 9k sims, though oddly enough the smaller city was far more profitable with the major problems at the end of the hour(max speed) were a lack of medium wealth housing since all of it was now high-wealth.

When you're on an overloaded server, load times can get lengthy, but on a normal/light load server the load times are quite short. Regardless, maxxing out graphics I never had an issue with performance at all. Only thing that I noticed and disliked was when you zoom in and follow something, the motion blur is excessive.

And like I've said before, don't think of the individual cities of SC5 like they're SC4 cities, they've built the game so that SC4 cities are more akin to SC5 regions.

You missed the point. This isn't about road selection. I know how to build different roads.

As I was saying, you can't create sprawl because you'll run out of space, even if the map was twice as big. Now, this wouldn't be a big deal if the city plots were right next to each other in the region like SC4, but they're not. There's space in between each city that cannot be developed.

If the SC5 region is equivalent to the SC4 city what is the equivalent of the SC4 region...nothing, making it 1/10-1/20 the scale of SC4 (given that there are ~10-20 cities in an SC4 region).

The game looks and plays well but the scale/size is a big step backwards imo (10 years later). They sell the region play as something new but it seems to be more relevant to SC4 than SC5...I had focused cities in my SC4 region (i.e. farming, industrial, commercial, etc focused regions). This along with the DRM are really disappointing...I still play SC4 on long plane rides and at my lake cottage which has no internet.

I'll say this, I played 3 1 hour runs of SC5 this weekend, wanted more so I reinstalled SC4. I played for all of a half hour before uninstalling. SC5 plays significantly better. It's kind of like comparing a pizza from one of NYC's top pizzerias to the number of Dominoes pizzas you can get for the same price and saying Dominoes is better because you get more...

As for a SC4 region, there is a global market you can buy/sell to, so it's not all lost. Additionally, there are region-level achievements going up to 5,000,000 sims living in the region, so the game definitely can scale up.

I played the demo as well and enjoyed the gameplay as I noted, obviously better than a game that is 10 years old (i.e. SC4). I was expecting/hoping for better gameplay, graphics and size/scale. The gameplay is good, graphics are ok but the size/scale was significantly reduced…it’s just disappointing.

I could easily fill a city in an hour in the demo...only room to grow was up. It takes quite a few hours to fill up a large city in SC4. The game was fun but it seems significantly simplified.
