Anyway, the point is that speciation from dinosaurs to birds happened tens of millions of years before dinosaurs went extinct. Obviously not all species of birds died out in the K-T extinction event, but as far as we know, all species of dinosaurs did. That said, the dinosaurs that birds evolved from were already extinct by this event, as were the earliest species of birds.
Species are constantly dying out, but again, this does not mean that those species descended from them must follow suit.
