Two Audio Outputs?

Thread Starter
So I bought an Asus XONAR DG 5.1 Sound Card a few months ago and have been using it for a while now, the only slight problem is is that in windows instead of picking up my speakers and headset as separate sound devices (I have headset plugged in at the front, speakers at the back) it picks up the sound card as one device so I can't have say skype through headset music/game through speakers which is what I originally had planned, Is there anyway around this using third party software or just changing something in windows?

Thanks in advance for any replys smile.gif

you cant use the front plug because that is connected to your onboard audio.

If you want to use your soundcard you need to plug it into the soundcard.

you need to use something like this

Actually, I think the issue is exactly opposite of that.

He can't use the front plug because he connected it to the sound card rather than leaving it attached to the motherboard (not sure what it would do to have 2 active sound devices, though).

I have a similar setup. I have my main audio handled by my creative card, but I have another output from the onboard audio that goes to my xbox live chat.
What you want to do is install drivers for both sound devices and then specify which applications use which device. I think you can do that within skype.

You want to use skype with the headphones and everything else with the speakers, right? I'd connect the speakers to the sound card and set the sound card as the default device. Then in skype, in the options menu under audio you can select your output. Set it to your onboard audio. Then plug the headphones into the onboard audio.

You can plug your front panel connector into either the sound card or the onboard, if you want your headphones for skype out of the front panel connect it to the onboard.

With my Asus mother board I use Headphone jack in front for skype and speakers on rear of motherboard and I can hear both music from speakers
and my skype call and talk at same time, through my headphones. I do not have a add-on sound card either. It does work for me it.
I use the Realtek HD software manager which came with my motherboard, but windows and realtek software work as one.

This may not help you but it does work. Good Luck smile.gif
