How can I get more MHZ? (>3.6 Ghz)

Thread Starter
I've just put together my first water cooled rig and have been messing around with it. I hit a ceiling of 3.6 Ghz and don't know what to do next. I know this baby can give me more, lol, but i don't know what buttons to push.

I have conroe e6600 running @ 3.6 Ghz (400 x 9), at 1.5 volts. Its @ 39 c under full load, and idles at 35 c. The memory is XMS2 8500 running at (400 Mhz ) @ 2.2 v. This is running on a P5B DH deluxe mobo.

I've gone all the way up to 1.7 volts to try and get it to boot at 415 fsb, but it just doesn't want to boot up. Is it the memory or the chip thats keeping it from going higher?

What exactly does the MCH voltage do?

Any suggestions would be greatly apprecieted, as this is the first OC system I've ever built. Hooray for me

Hey man, welcome to the forums, please fill out this scheme about your system specifications

I am guessing your RAM settings is holding you back, do you have some kind of divider running up?

I have the memory divider @ 1:1. I did notice that the memory was getting very hot and the northbridge chip was burning up. (passive cooling pos).

Do you think thats whats keeping me from getting a higher memory clock?

Should I go ahead and buy some memory heatsinks or would it be a waste of my money. LOL. Spent eough on this computer as it is

vMCH is the northbridge voltage. You need to put active cooling on it and raise that. 400MHz is about the wall for that board.

no the board can definitely do more than 400mhz, but not without active cooling on the NB, so you could 1)attach a 40mm fan onto the top of the northbridge heatsink, or 2)get a new northbridge heatsink like the thermaltake extreme spirit II or swiftech mcx159-cu.

get active cooling on the NB and up the voltage and you'll be good. put an 80mm fan there for now and you should be alright..
