^^ This is true. I had an AMD Phenom II TWKR and it ran hot on air.

Definitely a high leakage chip you have there. If you REALLY want to see what it can do, get a nice watercooling setup and then overclock the ever-living crap out of it.

As far as gaming performance goes, you'd be more than fine at 4.2 or 4.3. You'll still pick up a few frames if you go higher, but nothing significant and nothing that will make the experience any better. GPU performance is way more important than your CPU for that. You could be running a 3970X, but if you pair it with a HD 5450, you're still not going to have any fun playing games. But you could have a lowly Athlon II, drop in a 7950, and you would. You'd seriously hold the 7950 back, but you could definitely play.

Yeah, 4.3 ghz stable with 1.425v in the BIOS. I mean, it hits 1.456v in prime95, but that's so damn low.

ANOTHER QUESTION FOR YOU GUYS:

If I can get my 975 to 4.4ghz, would it still be decently future-proof for games? How bad would it bottleneck another 7580 if i got another for crossfire?
OP, pardon me if I missed it, but what CPU cooler are you running?

Xigmatek s1283 with Arctic Silver 5 and a push/pull 120mm fan config. It really doesn't work as well as I want it to... but it's letting me hit 4.3ghz. What's annoying is that my old P2 940 required 1.52v to hit 3.5 ghz, so it would peak at 1.55v in prime95, and even still it would max out at 60 celcius. That's what's so weird, with these volts I shouldn't be anywhere near the temps I'm getting (60 celcius full load with 1.425v 4.3ghz)

If I had the ability to pump my volts up to 1.5v and keep it as cool as my 940 at that voltage, I could easily hit 4.5 ghz on air.
