1x8 would be single channel no? You want 2 stick optimal for whatever your running on AMD boards generally. I think I heard of some boards having odd issues OC'ing with 4 slots occupied.
So I'd go with 2x4GB for 8GB total.
And if you find a great deal on really high clocking ram, you can do like me. I bought this ram cause it was just a bit more than good 1600 kits and it would stay till I upgrade to SR which should have improved IMC and higher supported speeds (hoping 1866-2133). So I can keep crazy low timings on a respectable frequency and have fast low timing ram later when a new CPU comes. I don't see DDR3 getting much faster than 2133/2400 before DDR4 arrives so I figure I'm futureproofed.
So you can think about that as well if theres a great deal on the go.
