Worth going 990fx?

Ok I plan on making a trip tomorrow and I'm contemplating going with an amd 990fx chipset. I have 4 hdds an . 2 dvd drives and a 1045T cpu. Is there any advantage to going 990fx if I stick with a single gpu? Big difference is the dual x16 for the crossfire / sli setups correct? I'm sill trying to learn about everything I know the phase settings are important for some overclocking. I'd like to get a new cooler maybe a hyper 212 and try to overclock my little chip a wee bit maybe 3.5 Ghz? Is that feasible? Thanks in advance guys!

IMO it is worth it. If you are worry about price then look at the Biostar TA990FXE. It is a very good budget mobo.

Yeah I looked at that one. Would you take that one over an asus m5a99fx 2.0 pro? It's not an evo but I can get that one for $110. And it'll have 6 sata ports so I don't lose a hard drive or need a controller card lol.

They both are good mobos, so pick the one that fit want you need.

sorry about that. I have a amd 1045T cpu and a radeon 6870 that I'm debating on crossfiring. Currently I have a biostar a870 motherboard.

Yes it will be a major upgrade. That mobo is a 2+1 phase power.

Yes my mobo was budget oriented lol. Is the major upgrade just the dual x16 pci e slots? Or is there better memory configurations of some sort I'm overlooking? Because if only upgrade is really the phase settings wouldn't I be better going a step lower? Or are all the good phase motherboards reserved for the 990 chip?

The upgrade is the better/quality power phase and SLI/CF @ x16 over A870. There are some good budget 970 mobos out there too, but you can't SLI/CF @ x16.

Keep an eye out. I've seen several sinked 970 boards with half decent quality (similar to my M5A97) going for $60-$80 lately. Keep an eye out for deals.

If your board is the older a870 and indeed has 2+1 as mentioned above, you cannot OC on that. You have an X6. I wouldn't OC on that board... Your memory is also at 1333 and 16000 OC? Thats low. So you can have faster ram support on a better mobo. Then you will have better upgrade options. If you plan to overclock, get a better board.

I posted here 2 boards, $65 MSI 970A-G46 or $70 Biostar TA970 (I recommend the Biostar board)
