At least man up and admit "fabricating" creates misconceptions and is not the best word to describe AMD's involvement in next gen consoles. While I agree with the rest of your point, I disagree with the usage of that word.

I would have to run dual 7950 or 670 to be at the level I want to be at, yet I would need a new Mobo and CPU to SLI/CF with cards like that. If i'm getting haswell when it drops I will have the CPU power, but why would I want to buy 1.5year old cards to put in my system. You do realize that the 7970 was released in Jan of 2012, so the card is more then a year old. I'm not going to put new old card into a new system.
I would rather continue to use my 470's till something worthy is released. For me thats 8970 or titan. GTX780 with no voltage control would also be a huge put off to me. Dont forget that some of us still wants a card that can take advantage of water cooled rigs as well.

how do you cool 2 470s + 920 on a 120 rad and a single H50 pump?

@tsm106

they have sea island in the pipeline for probably 2 years already, this is probably AMD in need to sell some more 7k cards they have left. Perhaps sales figures for their cards haven't been looking good.

I don't think the assumption that they have not had good sales is true. They managed to win lucrative console contracts. I think it would be safe to assume you don't manage that by not having both good performance metrics and sales. How do you figure it's been two years on Sea Islands when Tahiti was 2012, well officially anyways? What I remember is that I bought into Cayman late fall 2010. Then I bought into Tahiti in Jan 2012. Their current pace looks to be the same.

Because wether you like it or not, Nvidia need AMD, and AMD need Nvidia.
They both have a gentlemen agreement to not overpush an architecture to beat the competitor. Example: 7970 was out first. Pretty awesome result. Nvidia had a GK110 engineering sample ready for a while now and could have released it many months ago. Yet they didn`t. Why? Because they push out weak GPUs from the new architecture, get sales, hype up the market with new slightly better GPUs, get new sales, step by step, just to milk the cow the maximum amount.

Either AMD or Nvidia could have unleashed the greatest, biggest, most power hungry thing the world have ever seen. The GPU would have completely crushed all exisiting games out there with 150+ FPS, but they don`t. Instead the two companies fake that their fighting, but in reality they have a gentlemen agreement to make it look like their fighting, to get more sales and to milk the cow.

The price of a GPU don`t even remotely have a footstep in the raw material price. Just look at AMD which is the cheapest of both. They still make money on the graphic department. Nvidia pay just as much for silicon and wafers from TSMC, yet is so much more expensive. Once again, AMD need Nvidia because if everyone sees how expensive Nvidia is, customers think that AMD must be dirt cheap, while in reality, they could still go lower

^^That would be collusion and highly illegal for the record. That said it's not unheard in other industries.

And you'll pay possibly 200 dollars more for it?

Cloudfire I don't agree with most of what you've said, but I will say that at the very least neither company has shown any real desire to take the gloves off these past ~16 months.

Its a semi conspiracy against gamers in the name of profit.
I don`t have any proof, but the "race" between the two companies is dull as hell.

In the meantime between GPU releases they entertain owners of the respective GPUs with driver optimizations. This is probably the only part where they actually try to squeeze out more performance. Too bad its just polishing a half assed attempt of that architecture. In their own defense it will benefit them when the bigger GPUs from the same archicture is out since its not much difference between a 150mm^2 Kepler and a 500mm^2 Kepler

Disappointing sales figures, as in not to AMD's wish. I'm talking Radeon HD7k, not the APUs. They probably want to keep selling HD7k cards, especially after slashing the price by so much.

And yes, GPUs get designed much earlier than when we see them. Just like your 3930K probably says '09 or '10 on the IHS inscription. Tahiti was paper launched in '11 and officially launched in '12 but probably designed way back in '09 or '10. Also fall 2010 to jan 2012 is ~15 months in my perception and jan 2012 - Q1 2014 is 24+ months.

other industries? pc's are the worst industries for collusion, the DRAM cartels, the LCD panel cartels, hard drive manufacturers...name one component in the pc that hasn't had a charge or fine for collusion.

price fixing is the PC's best friend.
