I hope none of my old, non-warrantied GPUs break this year, or I may end up giving money to the goblins doh.gif

And if none of them do break, then the first team to release a card with 2x the power of a 6850 for <$190 wins my upgrade purchase. Maybe the 9xxx series . . .

Barring no failures and depending on how my 7950s will handle maxing games at 1600p, this is cool with me.

But that seems like a LONG time between if true.

Here is a new long article about it.
http://www.pcworld.com/article/2027813/amd-promises-to-squash-confusion-and-quickly-clarify-2013-radeon-plans.html

Short story:
The interview with 4Gamer said no 8000 series in 2013. Thats wrong. The timeline you see here from 4Gamer ends in Q3 2013. Meaning AMD might release the 8000 series in Q4 2013.

I don't see anything wrong with nothing new in 2013, as long as it doesn't turn into "nothing new EVER".

They will probably make a new 7970 V2 with a legit hardware GPU boost that isn't just BIOS settings.

I'm really glad I decided to buy my 7870 now..

Plus I never understood the whole "Omg lets release new cpu/graphic cards all the time" like really.. the 7970/680 can handle any game now and later why even release a 8/7 series wait a year or so instead..

Finally! It seems most people upgrade simply because they want to upgrade. I mean, what the hell do you do that your current card cannot run properly? I'd understand if you are filthy rich and just couldn't care less...

Maybe for you, but its a bummer to people who waited for 700 or 8000 series, including myself. I don't like paying premium for the stuff that is already been out for a year and likely be staying at that price for another year.

It is pretty crazy to think that AMD will not release anything new this year, especially when their 7000 series is already year old.

Yup, those of us who opted to skip this gen are kind of screwed atm.

I'd love to get some more muscle in my case for Crysis 3, but there aren't a lot of options atm. My current cards OC'd outpace a single 670, so to get a serious upgrade I'd have to invest in another dual card setup... which would mean spending $600 - $900 bucks on cards that are already over half way through their shelf life. Awesome.

I really don't get the people who are happy about this. Other than epeen inflation there's no benefit to a slower market. wth.gif
