[PC Perspective] AMD plans no new graphics cards in 2013 - Page 10

I see this as a great thing, it give's them more time to concentrate on drivers and squeezing everything out of the GCN architecture as well as the new memory management specifically for the GCN architecture. All in all when the 8000 series comes out AMD will have a great base (Drivers wise) to maximize the performance of them as they've had so much time with GCN learning its quirks.

The single gpu experience always has been and always will be superior to a dual gpu setup.

I will happily take 20% less frames for a smoother experience.

I'm betting the vast majority of xfire and sli users would as well.

2013 the year of limited edition Monsters... and nothing else?

Though, I remember when 600 series first launched, and people were arguing over nVidia having GK110 in the works "soon", there were also a lot of speculation on this being a possible quick 800 series and AMd could do a quick refresh with a 8000 series. Now here we are months later and being told no new cards for 2013??? I'm confused.

There's already a binned 7990, it's called the Ares II, and it's $1500 tongue.gif

How is this a good thing? If they came out with TWO new series by the time you were upgrading, you'd get more performance for your money. Now they'll be coming out with at best ONE, and you'll get less for the same cash, while those who wanted to upgrade in the meantime get nothing either. /boggle you don't need anything but self-control to not "keep up" with the market, if you can't afford to. Why would you want progress to slow down? It's not even beneficial for your self-centered sphere of thought, let alone everyone else?

They have no reason to. They'll release Titan now for those willing to pay and wait until AMD is ready to release before putting the 7xx series on the market.

Why don't you make proper comparisons?

GTX 480 > 5870
GTX590 trades blows with 6990
GTX690 $1000 ... Ares $1500 and is limited to 1000 cards.

You also conveniently forgot...

GTX580 > 6970

GTX680 with a GK104 chip got the job done against the 7970.

AMD had to put out a 7970GHZ and took almost a year to put out drivers to really win against the 680.

Yeah, Nvidia really needs to step it up. rolleyes.gif

NVIDIA feels no pressure from AMD if they did, they couldn't get away with Titan priced at $900.

What will AMD use to counter the Titan? Put out an official 7990?

**Flame Suit ON**

Don't forget that the GTX 670 alone has way more cards in use than BOTH Radeon 7950 and 7970 *COMBINED* on the steam survey. As a whole the GTX 670/680 have outsold the Radeon 79xx series over a greater than two-to-one ratio. There's a reason for that, and part of why Radeon cards have had to withstand such huge price cuts to even keep them in the game to most buyers against more expensive GTX products.

You're going off of a Steam survey? That's quite biased.

How about $900! and now AMD says hey our cards now look downright economical in comparison let's sit on our thumbs for another 8 months.

One of these days these companies are going to have to give us more performance for the dollar. Seriously think about how all of the current GPUs compare to the ~$400 580 before it's stock started drying up in terms of performance per dollar.

process node advancementy is slowing down and adding transistors is starting to bottleneck. discrete gpu and cpu performance is good enough, now it is about intergrating the 2 units together.

next level of processing performance. that might last a decade tops, then we are going to have very significant issues gaining more performance with silicon

If this is true I guess I will just have to stick with my poor little 7850. I bought it to replace a lightning 6970 since it drew too much power and was hoping to buy a 8000 series soon. Maybe I will actually buy a new laptop this year instead or finally suck it up and buy an nvidia card if they come out with something new...
