Question on mdp-HDMI adapter

Hi folks,

quick question on these pesky mini displayport adapters. My new PC build has a Radeon 7970 MSI Lightning video card. It has 4 mini displayports and 2 DVI ports. I want to hook up multiple monitors but my current monitor array has limited ports. I need to connect 2 via mini-dp ports to HDMI ports.

So, where I need mini-dp to HDMI adapters, I'm curious if these need to be 'active' in the same way that mini-dp to DVI adapters do? If so, can someone recommend a product that's reliable?

If they don't need to be active, will any old mini-dp to HDMI adapter work?

I'm looking at this, as an example: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007B6YPAM/ref=ox_sc_act_title_5?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER - noting it doesn't state if it's active or passive.

Thanks in advance.

it must be active. the card can only handle 2 outputs without an active DP or mDP adapter. as far as i know there is no such thing as an active minidisplay port to HDMI. you can however get minidisplay to DVI.
this one is good http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sapphire-Active-DisplayPort-Single-Link-Adapter/dp/B004VVMNZ4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1360438927&sr=8-1

if your desperate you could try converting to dvi then dvi to HDMI although you wont get sound and im not sure if it would even work
