Hey, so lets start with: It was a beautiful morning the 9th of february when i desided to lift somthing of the shelf and then some how an heavy item on the shelf next to the one i was moving somthing on, fell this heacvy item down to the flow where my gf's laptop was feeding some power from the wall, when all of a sudden somting came crashing down on it trying to kill it but managed only to crush the laptop screen.

So with that i present some pictures:

So with that, i took the monitor out:

PC name: ASUS U31JG 13,3" HD
Now im wondering:
Where can i get a new screen.
How much it will cost (about)
Will she kill me when she sees it? :s

You sir are going to die..........

But to be serious you would have a lot of trouble replacing the screen as you will need to push the dent back out. Of course not impossible but just takes time to get the job done. You should be able to get buy a replacement screen off ebay for around $150 or so. But you may want to consider calling Asus first. Do you have the accidental warranty that some asus laptops have?

The time required and potential incompatible screen purchases would, in my opinion, warrant simply buying a new laptop and using this one as a slim desktop/media pc.

My $0.02

Good luck.

I've replaced countless laptop screens and it's very simple to do but you do want to take your time, and as the person above said you'll have to fix that dent most likely.

To fix the dent put it finished side down on a large piece of soft clean wood and then hit the inside of the lid with a rubber mallet - this should make it look somewhat flat without too much work.

Most likely to replace the screen you'll have to take the chassis apart to access the ribbon cable on the mainboard that connects to the screen, sometimes you get lucky and they are underneath the top panel that hides the screen hinges but it's rare as it's usually close to the graphics chip and you have a small laptop so most likely underneath side of the mainboard near the battery is where you'll find it.

Take everything apart, label all your screws and/or take pictures to know how everything goes back.

Your screen can be had here for $49:
https://www.laptopscreen.com/English/model/ASUS/U31JG/

You have the option of matte or glossy so good chance to get what your gf prefer (I hate glossy).

She would understand especially since your trying to fix it n not goin Ohhh what's happened.
Most screens the leads are just under the power buttons near the hinges.
I would look at the cost of a new lid aswell you only need the back panel nothing else ( apart from screen)

As above said just take your time and picture each time you do something to help

Screens should be easy to find. You can always call up ASUS and ask if you can order replacement parts or ebay for them.

Last time I dropped my laptop luckily it was only the digitizer glass broke. Not the screen itself. There is still a decent sized crack there though :/

Im still alive! =3

So she was happy when she got home, that was until she looked at the laptop befor i had a chance to say what had happend.. her face went red and i ran straight out and down to the garage hehe.
After awhile i went back up to the house and told her that i had made a post here to get some help to fix it, she got abit less mad, and today when i told her i got some help from you all she baked "Fastelavnsboller"(google it =) to me.

So now im going to order the new screen from the site xyexz posted.
If i could i would send some to you all, but since that is kinda hard you can PM me to get the recipe.

Will post back here when i get the new screen + pictures of it, until then i have to share one of my gaming rigs frown.gif

Those do look fantastic although rich enough that I could probably eat half of one before I gave up lol.

GIVE US THE RECIPE!!! I'm sure my wife would make them.

Let us know if you need any help with the installation - it's really not bad once you get started; mainly taking your time is the key and if you start on it and feel like you're messing up or something is going to break, that's probably because something bad is about to happen and you should stop and take a look at everything thumb.gif

Edit, also if you've got an old plastic library card, club card, credit card etc that you don't care about I can't tell you how awesome of a tool they are for a job like this for popping all the hidden latch tabs on the laptop screen/body frame, way better than using a screwdriver or knife etc which will just gouge the body/frame of the laptop - even if it's metal.

1kg flour, 150gr sugar 200gr butter 50gr yeast 6DL milk, 1 tsp cardamom
Melt butter and take the milk in, so that it becomes 37 degrees, mix the yeast into the butter and milk mix then Mix everything together. Let it rise for 45minutter.
180*C for 12-15min.

The cream inbetween is cream, but you can also when mixing the cream add razberry jam to make it "better" =3

she says if you got any questions then its just to ask =3
