Better performance on S27a90 Dvi-d or Displayort?

Thread Starter
I just got a new S27A950D. Can someone advise me which is better dvi-d or displayport i got both cables but don't know which one will give me better performance
post #2 of 9
Both will produce the same quality image, though DP will have a better bandwidth. You won't be able to tell the difference.

I would just add that a DP cable is more user-friendly compared to a big fat DVI cable. rolleyes.gif

Shouldn't be any difference at all on that monitor - that's the beauty of a digital signal.

Performance should be identical, however the 750D and 950D Samsungs are both fairly widely reported as having buggy DP. If you already have a DP cable then try it out, but switch to DL-DVI if you have problems (like signal randomly dropping out). If you don't have a DP cable yet then I wouldn't buy one - in this case just use the DL-DVI cable that came with the 950D and plug it into your graphics card's DL-DVI port.

I haven't had a problem with any of my 950Ds DP. ( I had 3 at one point, but sold 2)

This, DVI has withstood the test of time, I prefer it over newer stuff until the newer stuff proves itself.

I use Dual-Link DVI-D/-I for everything simply because I have probably close to 60 cables (all DL DVI-D OR -I). I have noticed that some of the "bad" or "cheap" ones are not as good as the "nice" ones, and are more likely to have issues with interference from the countless other cables behind my desk. I have a few that are lower-guage than the rest, and over twice as thick, and I use them for everything now. The only problem you can getffrom DVI is interference or crosstalk, to whichtthe thicker ones seem to be immune. Considering I have never spent more than $20 on a video cable, I am impressed.
I would recommend getting the thickest, best quality, most-shielded cable you can find and then never having to worry about it again.

I sleeve all my cables with Tech-Flex or Tech-Flex Clean-Cut PET sleeving, too, which makes organization a million times easier since everything is color coded. Just a suggestion, and if underneath your desk is anything like mine, I would recommend it!
