[Apple Insider] New York Mag's BlackBerry 10 demo unit dies after only four days - Page 4

I hope this works for BB... They're not cup of tea but I admire the fact that they've not just thrown in the towel.

They've gone back to the drawing board and tried to something new (ish)

The phone has apparently sold more then any other BB phone before it, I can see Apples already dismal market share shrinking even more.

Blackberry needs to adopt Android and simply add their own customizations to it. I just don't see them surviving if they keep pushing the blackberry OS. We all know how horribly their tablets sold.

Now all we need is for one of these completely objective reports to report on how they dropped their iPhone 4 and smashed both glass surfaces, therefore globally labelling the iPhone 4 as having terrible reliability/resilience.

The day will come.

I'm sure of it, such is my trust/confidence in these outlets.

Any day now.

I keep hearing this but have yet to see one outside of a store in the UK. I really hope either WP or BB get some traction, it'll be much better for consumers if it's not a two horse race.

Forums are already bad enough with AMD/Intel and AMD/Nvidia, I'd hate for this to be repeated in the phone space as well smile.gif

Wow, it is absolutely amazing how not a single person that posted in this thread (a) actually read and understood the comment made by the OP, and (b) has any clue what they are talking about.

I could get a z10 now, but unfortunately, i know people will be selling them for ~450 on kijiji/CL soon enough frown.gif
You obviously never wanted a BB10. Hardware failures are imminent everywhere with every brand and every product no matter what it is and where it is. Every product fails, period, no exceptions, and there are bad apples (not Apples) everywhere. You will not find any Z10 on KJ/CL for a long time to come, at least not in any tangible quantity. Obviously there will be an occasional phone here and there.

I really hope not. I don't want to see anything the likes of a junky Android OS within 10 miles of this device. Besides, the device is already capable of running basically any Android 2.3.3 app, and within a few weeks it will be capable of running any Android 4.1 app.

True, but you completely missed the fact that the OP is not referring to BlackBerry. He's actually referring to the fact that as soon as there is a tangible competitor out in the market to the Apple/Android dominance that is actually acknowledged (not like everyone's favorite completely dismissed and understated Windows phone), the "mighty" start to whine, *****, and complain, and will stoop to any level to "defend" their devices. So much so that you will see this type of utterly biased, unprofessional, pure sensationalist garbage posted in more and more places. As many like to put it here, fanboys will be fanboys.

You sir have zero clue what you are talking about. The OS blows anything offered by the Apple and Android camps completely out of the water, and so does the device in every functional respect except for maybe the camera (software only problem really and will be resolved soon). The only thing currently hurting the platform is the fact that it is brand new and the app availability is limited, but that will change as long as BlackBerry keeps the momentum going. Maybe you should actually understand what the device is doing, how it's doing it, and what's it like, before making such uninformed comments.

That's right. We all know how terribly Apple was doing since 1990s until 2007. Surely this must mean that they are completely out of the running today, right? Right?! This was such a well thought out, educated comment. I love it so much I cannot stop reading it over and over again. If you try and fail, the lesson is never try.

I'll tell you what, I've used an iPhone, never liked it because it is oversimplified and uses a fragmented interface (everything is touch except you have to rely on a home button). It does however have the best, most polished apps, which is a huge plus for the platform. I personally own an Android device and as a media consumption device it is superior to the OS 7 and before generation of BB devices but it is still running a garbage OS. I like it for its customizability and the fact that custom ROMs and developer community do some amazing things. However, it fails miserably in being a productive device, especially when it comes to doing actual work. Don't even get me started on the security risk aspects of it, the general lack of OS performance, and the massive fragmentation of the market. Androids are great devices in a lot of respects, but they too have a lot of problems. I also own a BB 9900. I use it for work. I could never, nor would I ever want to replace it with an Android as my primary device. iOS/Android just does not do what the BB does, and this is the now old OS 7. I actually did use a Z10 and the platform is truly amazing. It takes the productive aspects of a BB and it actually manages to blend them extremely well with the entertainment/media consumption aspect to give me one device that really does it all, and on top of that provide a rock-solid, high-performance OS, rich features, and strong security. Why would I want to own anything but a Z10 now? I know I don't and many will feel the same.

You say it like it never happens to a Samsung device or to an iPhone-one of X devices will not be fully functional-the critic just has bad luck
The Z10 sold nice, I hope it'll afford a better development process to their future devices and the OS.
BB10 will be a top notch one in a year with apps and improved stability.

Well now that the kids are arguing again...I'll input my piece:

From the Engadget video I watched last night, the Blackberry Z10, IMO, is a beautiful device. I love the non-glossed over, GNex-like back, especially. The software looks interesting, even. But, it looks like a lot of apps right now aren't really optimized, or end up looking wonky because of the lack of device support, which inevitably will come. I'm very interested in how this turns out. The GF wants a Lumia 920, so I can't wait to see which of the 'professional/business'-like phones end up being more enjoyable and 'simple'.
