Good 180mm fans?

Thread Starter
Anyone have a source for 180mm fans? Saw a few on frozen and newegg, but they are pretty much what I already have and just curious if I have other options.

Silverstone have the air penetrator and the FN181. the FN should give you more air flow but the AP will give you directed airflow so I dunno whats best. At 5v the AP181 is very quiet but still can be heard. Silverstone fans have poor life times from what I have seen they will last around a year and are very expensive to replace.

Phobya also make 180mm fans but I have no idea how they are tho. Currently the problem I have with the fans available is that they are sleeve bearing fans and they done last long in horizontal positions.

Actually the AP182 has some immense airflow, not to mention static pressure. If it's as good as it is supposed to be, I see no reason to buy any other 180mm fan....

So far the only serious options are Silverstone and Phobya. The Phobya fans are quieter but push a lot less air than the air penetrators.
Neither of them are good enough for super-silent systems.

There are rumors that Noiseblocker is working on 180mm fans, which would probably wipe the floor with any of the current options. But those rumors have been around for a while and so far there is nothing available for purchase.

So, I have a Silverstone RV02 case, plan on water cooling it, should I just stick with the 180's I have(not sure which model they are) or look into running a different size?

I suppose it would depend on the radiator you intend to use. Higher fin density = need for stronger fans, but even low-density rads (such as the new Alphacool XT45 180s) benefit from powerful fans. The key here is static pressure, and I just don't see anything that can compete with the AP182 in that respec .

It depends on the purpose of the watercooling system. If you chose water for heavy overclocking or showmanship, then the Air Penetrators are the way to go.

If you want water for silence, then you might want to look into different sizes. There are a some very quiet 120mm fans with high static pressure (Gentle Typhoons, Noctua NF-F12, Noiseblocker E-loop when pushing). The air gets thinner (no pun intended) if you go for 140mm fans. As far as i know only the only really silent high SP fan is the Blacksilent Pro 140.
