Widescreen resolutions on SVGA?

Thread Starter
Hello,

Today I connected my Samsung Syncmaster 2253BW LCD monitor to my Dell laptop from work (Latitude E6410 running Windows 7 Professional) using an SVGA cable and when I went to change the resolution i saw that not only was the native resolution for the monitor (1680 x 1050) not an option, but the only resolutions available were all 4:3 aspect ratios. I went to the samsung website and downloaded the monitor driver, but that didn't seem to change anything. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

S-vga or s-video?

Both are analog and I'm guessing the 4:3 ratio is actually an s-video output, low res and aspect ratio being a limitation of the hardware interface, with any resolutions being those that match last decade's tv's and old high res projectors at best.

If it's really a VGA cable, you'll need to load a monitor profile (really depends on card/driver/etc) config file to get past the "basic" VGA standard resolutions.

Sorry.
