Theres an excellent x58/bloomfield overclocking guide on this site. Just make sure to download something like realtemp or coretemp and monitor your temps while following the guide on here. You shouldnt have any issues, gotta learn at some point this is OCN smile.gif.

Here's the quote I linked before..

"P.S.: My Core 2 Extreme became 5 years old this November.
P.S.2: I underclocked my CPU simply to prove wrong the "CPU PUSHERS" who say that in order to play WoW at ULTRA settings and decent FPS you need to have the latest INTEL CPU overclocked over 5 GHZ. The same people also say that GPU makes no difference in WoW, however, I can assure you that there is a BLOODY HUGE DIFFERENCE in WoW between my old AT RADEON HD 5830 and my Nividia GTX 580. The difference is BLOODY HUGE."

And i've played this game for 7 years. on 6 different computers.

And yes Pandaria is coded like complete garbage, at certain viewing angles anywhere outdoors, my fps turns to an automatic v-sync at 30 fps, with Vync off, but i'm watching the fps counter cap at 30.

Have you tryed CF in place's where you couldnt reach 60FPS ?

And you are comparing a 5830 to a GTX580, also Nvidia is better in WoW then AMD.. i mentioned that a few post's before.

Compare a 7850 to a 7970 in WoW on a fast CPU and you wont notice any difference in area's you cant reach 60FPS.

You said you're a timid overclocker, so 2 of these 7950s, http://goo.gl/Chtfi should accomplish what you need. They don't have the best cooler, but they're good overall, if you won't be overclocking much if any at all these should be perfect.

Edit: If you feel like overclocking you can get the Vapor-X version, with better cooling and a better PCB.
http://goo.gl/UlFPf

Also, buy both of them seperately and use the code, Newcustomer to save $10 on each.
And they come with 4 games, 2x crysis 3 and 2x Bioshock Infinite, You could take 2 and sell the other 2 on classifieds, or sell all 4 if you don't care for them.

So 2 of these in Crossfire for your main monitor, and you can use the 5870 for the side screens.
Should without a doubt max out any games today, and in the near future, especially what you play.

And also sell the 5450. Actually, lol I don't think its worth selling.

So that's $580 spent, with rebates, shipping, and codes.

And you can set aside the rest of the money in your budget for when haswell comes out.
Then you can sell your cpu/motherboard/ram on the classifieds, and get a nice haswell chip, motherboard, and ddr4.

And to everyone below me, OP has a $900 budget and wants to max out games.. lol

Haswell isnt supposed to be bringing ddr4 maintstream

Okay, so after about 2 hours of reading and being a bit scared to try it... I finally did it.

My ASrock X58 Extreme had an option to use what it calls "CPU EZ OC" where you just select a GHZ frequency and it will configure everything for you. Most sites i read said that it was a good option AS LONG AS you dont try to push it much beyond 3.6GHZ, which was the first option. So, taking that into consideration, that's what i did, and so far... i've been sitting here for nearly 30 minutes now... and I appear to be at a solid 3.6 GHZ!!!!

Wanna give it a day or two to see just how stable it is, right now the CPU is running at a temperature of 44C, while playing WoW earlier it went up to 46, I'm assuming as long as I dont go over 60C i'm okay (That seems to be the magic # to most ppl?)

While gaming you fine under 75 degrees.
While stress testing your fine to about 85 degrees.

To find out if your OC is stable just run a CPU stres test like Prime95.
12 hours of Prime95 stable is good enoough IMO.

Yeah i've been running Guild Wars 2 all morning and it hasn't peeked above 48C in 70F Apartment air. Super excited hehe... still noticing my GPU however maxing out big time on Guild Wars 2, running near 70C (my 5870). Its reference design, so no great custom cooler on it. I'm thinkin a 680 might be in my near future if its so well optimized for WoW and GW2 will go either way. More or less just gotta decide now what 680 to purchase, debating between:

i would go with the Gigabyte card in your picks but i would get a GTX670 or 7950 myself to save money.
If WoW and GW2 is what you play the most i would go with a GTX670.

To proof you (and others) its mostly about CPU clocks in WoW i made you a few screenshots.
On all screenshots my 7950 never went above 50% usage, not even close.

Game settings are all to max and 8xAA, the screenshots are taken in Ogrimmar (Dreanor, a very busy realm)

All core's + HT enabled

2,4ghz = 20FPS

3,5ghz = 26FPS

4,0ghz = 30FPS

4,6ghz 36FPS

I'm sorry but you've got some serious addon issues hurting your performance, Also yes, CPU performance makes a difference in wow but its not the end of the world like you say.. the i7 920 is a good cpu.

I'm not saying a cpu doesn't help. But his is good enough for now until haswell.
You shouldn't be getting 36 fps in wow/org with 4.6GHZ and a 7950.

I play wow on my 6870 computer, with a i5 2400, and I get the 35+ FPS in orgrimmar (if I turn everything up to ultra, but I have most things lowered to get 60 fps at all times), on the extremely busy full 99% horde Mal'Ganis server.

Also, when I overclocked my 6870 about 10% the difference was very noticeable.. I also have a flashed MB bios to overclock my i5-2400 up to 3.5GHz and my average went up 1 fps.

And OP, http://goo.gl/bR1pS
