GPU Temps 102 C - Page 2

At 1.3v, those temps don't surprise me with the stock cooler. My 7850 at just 1.2v was hitting high 80's with the stock cooler, and I didn't feel comfortable running it that hot. My advise would be to grab a D-Wood bracket and an H50-H70. My 7850 with an H70 never touches anything over 60C gaming or benching @ 1.225v.

If your cores are hitting 102C, your VRMs have likely fried, they will now suck up more power at less load, always reach high temps when gaming and you are looking at potentially early death of your cards.

core temps at 102c. what were the VRM temps ? as said above you most likely would have damaged the VRMs . without knowing safe temps why did you even overclock ? reset everything to stock (voltage and clocks) . test your card if its working properly. set a custom fan profile to keep core temps around 70c- 75c and VRM temps below 90c. once you confirm that your card is working fine then get a better cooler or go for a custom mod like antec h620

That's a pretty catastrophic scenario.
The XFX DD cooler uses the main heatsink for VRM cooling. If there were no contact problems, there should be no problems there.

My bet is that there is a contact problem between the GPU and the cooler.

Update:

Oops, looks like the 7870 does not use the same cooler as the 7950/7970.
If I'm seeing correctly, the VRMs are not heatsinked at all:

not good

Also, probably no software VRM temp monitoring on that card:

Wow. My 7870 hawks vrms hit 65-68c at 1.35v and 1300 core. Ive read that the xfx cooler is an absolute joke and this seems to be proving it
