Building new comp, tell me what you think of my build. - Page 2

Do you really need a Maximus V formula? It's practically a $300 board. Go with an ASRock Z77 Extreme6 or Gigabyte Z77X UD3H you won't notice any different in overclocking ability or features. Plus you will have extra money to invest in other areas. Also, the PSU is way overpriced. You can get a SeaSonic X Series X-850 for $149.99 after rebate right now on Newegg. Which is still overkill.

^ agreed get a Z77X UD3H, and get the NH-D14 CPU Cooler.

This rig looks very nice btw, good job. thumb.gif

You could go with a smaller case, this one is HUGE. Checkout Corsair 300/400/500R cases or Fractal Design for example.

As others said, go with 7950/7970, you get much better value, 1GB more memory and significantly more memory bandwidth.

Go with the i5 3570k. I see that you do some animation but unless you do it on a hardcore level the i5 will crush anything you throw at it and, well, you still have the opportunity to overclock it. I second the Z77X-UD3H recommendation, great motherboard.

Aircoolers are cheaper than WC units, look at Thermalright Silver Arrow for example.

Go with Plextor M5S or Samsung 840 for the SSD, they're faster and have a good price.

That Velociraptor is noisy and has three platters. Go with the WD10EZEX, it's a Blue I know but it's WD's newest and fastest consumer drive since it has a single 1TB platter.

Corsair Platinium is highly overpriced, go with G.Skill, Crucial new Low Profile memory or Patriot.

A 500W PSU is fine for that build, or 650W for future dual GPU config. Look at Seasonic G Series or Rosewill Capstone.

If you don't have plans on adding another card for sli in the future, an AX860 would be almost a waste of $$$. Go for a Seasonic X650 instead as it's cheaper and can actually run 680's in sli. Also you might want to swap your Velociraptor HDD to something like a Samsung Spinpoint as you already have an SSD as a primary drive.

Agreed but Seasonic X PSUs are pricy.

Also the Spinpoint F3 is based-off an old dual platters design (Samsung HDD Dept doesn't exist anymore).

I have also changed the SSD to the OCZ vector 256GB

for custom liquid cooling, you could try this website http://www.frozencpu.com/,
as for the initial start you could consider this http://www.overclock.net/t/913181/water-cooling-guide-for-noobs
