I think Im tired of 3 monitor Surround gaming.

Hi people,

I have 3x 3d vg278h 27" monitors in surround. As you can see in my picture they look good but i remember having my 27" imac and thinking that it was a good picture and i was lowering my standards when i came back to Pc and bought the VG278H. Dont get me wrong they look great but the bezels are annoying me and some games are just not compatible for surround gaming.

One of the reasons Im at ths stage is because in some games im getting 20 FPS when FRAPS is on and i was looking at improving the performance of my rig. But 2x 680 FTW and 3770k are pretty good and adding another 680 throws up all sorts. Like bigger power supply and some games dont like 3 way sli let alone surround and the heat in the case. So games get limited for me. Nothing worse than playing a game and having the 2 side monitors turned off lol. Also ill get my desk real estate back lol.

So if i was to change and go a high res screen what can i get? Will i like the transition from surround to a high res screen. I want best image quality and fast frame rate (60fps+).

I mainly play games like Dayz, BF3.

Also do you think ill have an easy time of sell the 3 monitors?

Please any thoughts are welcome!

Donate one of the monitors to me tongue.gif On a serious note though 3 monitors seem like a "tiring perspective " , i mean gaming in one monitor makes my eyes sore , i can't imagine doing that on 3 ! Plus you went the wrong GPU's tongue.gif you should have known better than buy 680's for surround , their 2GB memory really limits your options thumb.gif If i were you i'd just get a 2560x1600 30" Dell or two 2560x1600 27" .

i got 2 of the EVGA GTX 680 4GB FTW's

Its not the VRAM stopping me i think its the 256bit. The new tesla titan card would resolve this with 384bit but im not in the mood to buy 2 cards and not know if they will work well together in sli and if the drivers well work properly.

Also i dont know how Im supposed to get all the rep feedback so i can list all items i have building up in the for sale section.

Ive basically been gaming at 60fps since i got the 3 monitors so i guess gaming at 60fps wont bother me and ill get the added visual stimuli from a 1600p monitor. only thing that is concerning is the lack of vision from the 2 outer monitors.

So whats the better IPS montors @ 30" and 1600p that people recommend.

The Dell Ultrasharp U3014 is supposed to be coming out very soon, and it would be worth waiting for. I agree that the cards are not the issue so much as optimizatio , and I prefer having a single awesome screen to multiple decent screens myself.

2x 680FTW 4GB should have absolutely no problem with 1600p, and in the meantime you can get very good gains from overclocking the cards' memory. Many people can hit over 7Ghz effective, and the difference in performance is substantial.

I presume the Samsungs are glossy? That would be my choice over the matte Dell, although the model you listed is only 27" 1440p

I've heard good things about Asus PB278Q. It's 1440p but i think it's still a very viable option.

Please help me in choosing a 1440p monitor. I think its out of the following.

Asus PB278Q - Matte finish just like my Asus VG278H's. Colors may be an issue. Can be used in portrait mode = 650 Aud.
Samsung S27A850T - Older model that can be used in portrait = Cheap at $559 Aud
Samsung LS27B970D - Its a Newer version of the 850t. Good color and LINUS highly rates it. And his previous Favorite was the older 850t = $1000 - $1250 Aud
Dell U2713H - Matte finish but not as bad as the old U2711. Will the lag be ok to game. Can be used in portrait mode = around $900 Aud + 3 years warranty.
I was looking at the 30" new LG and the new Dell but think the 16:10 will be annoying. especially after gaming in surround to having less width than 16:9. (am i getting this right? or is it just mor height?)

Attributes in order of importance!

1. 2560 x 1440p+ Res!
2. Low Lag
3. Good Color
4. Quality that will last
5. Looks

I need people to come forward with what they own and what works for them and the games they play. Im looking at DayZ, Chivalry, Simcity, NBA 2k13, FIFA13 and a little BF3. I have never played Crysis so i may try them out some time.

Thanks guys and i appreciate your time and thoughts!

Or a Korean monitor, 1440p, guaranteed low input lag, glossy so they look awesome, only issue being quality control although almost everyone loves them! Sorry don't know much about the models you listed, but I would check Prad.de for input lag information as tftcentral is well known to sometimes report erroneous results (like the U2312 having 0.6ms total lag time, which is ridiculous, especially when Prad measured about 6ms with a professional oscilloscope).

And I'd pretty much base my choice on input lag and glossy panel.

1440p vs 1600p, on the desktop 1600p is exactly the same width just more height as you mentioned. Whereas in games it depends on the game in question. Dota 2 scales 16:10 to have less fov, whereas something like Red Alert 3 I believe would give you much more viewing real estate.

I just bought a refurb Samsung 970D $540 Aud. Retail if you can find one is $1300 Aud

Comes with a 1 year warranty.

The way i see it i could take a risk and buy a rejected IPS panel korean monitor or the Samsung refurb that has been brought back up to scratch and passed a respected QC.

It could be here by the end of the week. I will post more comments when it arrives.
