Upgrade from fx8120 to 8350?

I'm going to sell my fx 8120 for $120, I can then buy the fx 8150 for $179 on newegg with the new customer code. But is it really worth it to upgrade it? Either that or buy a new monitor.. =/

it's totally not worth it. they are basically the same chip, the only difference is that the 8150 is clocked 500mhz higher, overclock your 8120 to make it 8150, and that is free.

EDIT: apparently i need to sleep, lol. yes it is worth it.

Title says 8320 vs thread saying 8150. If you mean 8150 DON'T DO IT. As they are almost exactly the same chip. Some 8120's clock higher than some 8150's in reality. But the only difference is changing a number in your BIOS. Not worth $50 or so...

If you mean 8350, you should look at getting the 8320, better value (about $20 to $30 cheaper for again, basically the same chip) This will be a slight upgrade over your chip but noting mind blowing. I don't think it will be worth the cost. The money could be better spent on something else.

Fill out your Sig Rig if you want some suggestions. Are you experiencing any CPU bottlenecks currently? What GPU's do you have? What are you workloads consisting of? We need more info to give you any significant advice aside from "yes" or "no" to "Should I upgrade my CPU?" which might not even be what you should be worrying about tongue.gif

Swapping an 8120 for an 8350 will be worth the trouble. The improvements made in Piledriver make a big difference compared to Bulldozer.

Can't agree more. This is the exact step up I did. Went from a 8120 to a 8350 and it's a MUCH better cpu overall, especially in gaming. Well worth the money, especially considering you can find them for $190 or so and sell the 8120 for like $100 roughly.
