I was playing Borderlands earlier and all of a sudden the screen goes dark. Had some really dark gray stripes along the screen but pretty much not functioning. Figured it was just a crash and restarted. Since then, BSOD (BCCode:116, Video Card) every time I bootup, just like before. Disable the driver in safe mode and all is good. I haven't overclocked or anything yet.

Do I have another faulty card?
Faulty card or faulty drivers, yes.

Before you do that, which drivers are you using? I upgraded to 314.07 and had nothing but problems. Multiple game freezes and "graphics driver stopped responding" errors, as well as a couple times where the computer would just boot to a black screen. I rolled back to the 310 drivers and the problems went away. I've read about multiple people with similar issues on the new drivers.

I was on the 313.96 for about a week. Perfectly fine. Then it crashed. I didn't adjust any settings all week or anything, everything was still stock.

I upgraded to the new drivers, same thing, downgraded back, same thing, went to the stable 313.90, same thing, then tried some random ones, and still nothing. It can't be the drivers so I'm assuming it must be the card.

Anyways, I'm returning that one and getting a EVGA 2683 KR.

I might upgrade to the 4GB of VRAM though, haven't decided yet.

Dang you're having the worst luck with GPUs frown.gif

As far as 2gb vs 4gb, I see no need to go with 4gb unless you are running multiple monitors. Even then, a single 680 will hold you back before the VRAM does. I mean its obviously your choice, but IMO it isn't practical to spend the extra unless you have a resolution high enough to require it.

The only reason I'm thinking 4gb is it's only a $50 difference, and it would definitely make the rig more futureproof.

It serves me no purpose now, but when I do upgrade my monitors (I want 1440p eventually) I want to make sure I can run everything. I think I'll just sell the 2GB and pay the difference when the time comes though.

Thanks for the help!

New card is in and everything is working again. Hopefully this one will last.
