would this work well?

You'd have your headphones playing all the time, adding extra wear for no reason.

I know the new Creative Z line supports software switching between headphones and speakers

Would muting the headphones with a button in the cord still wear them off?

No, a splitter would work fine then

Would this work? I can't find the same switch from my country.
I thought the switch idea is pretty good, but what about my mic in? Can i plug it somewhere in the switch?

Well, do your 2.1 speakers have a headphone jack on them? Simple fix if they do. Just plug your headphones into that jack to use them, unplug for speakers. FYI, if it does, they are usually on the satellites.

Current ones don't, but i also need mic input in them. Plugging everything in the back is also going to make my desk cleaner, which i really want as i use this for pretty much everything other than eating biggrin.gif
