You can use some clear tape to mimic a glossy surface. This is what I did with my DeathAdder BE.

The coating came off in a week. I rubbed off the rest of it with my finger. It was good to go at that point, but I wanted to try sanding it, that didn't work like I thought. So to bring back the grip I had to stipple or paint it. Since I didn't want to do any of that, I just used some normal clear tape.

The DeathAdder 3.5G with glossy sides is good. I would have gotten that first and turned off the LED or soldered a red one.

The Zowie EC and AM's mold design and lens are two major flaws. To bad they don't want to do anything about it.

Having to use drivers with the 2013 DeathAdder sucks. I'm not even sure you can change LOD, polling and DPI then uninstall the drivers and still retain the settings.

G400 is the next best choice if you like that kind of mouse.

Other than that you are stuck with Intellimice, unless the Zowie FK and a modded lens is worth the time.

I went from an ime 3.0 to a ec1 evo and i prefer the zowie mainly because the pcs on the 3.0 was too low for my sens (i play rly low sens about 88cm/360) aslong as you have a black surface its fine, oh and get the white version if you have dry hands.

What mold design flaw?

Swapping lens isn't exactly a drop in upgrade. Sure it may work, though there are many variables to account for on this end. (FW related)

There's an engineering or cost perspective behind most decisions. Even you think or know something is possible (I personally tend to mention a bit), there is always some sort of reasoning behind it.

Edit: The bottom of the AM I have scrapes on every surface with brand new feet. Reminded me of another mouse. tongue.gif

Mostly has to do with the scroll wheel. Since you have an EC you will know. Also there is a lot of over travel on the EC.

On the AM the cable gets split by the shell. The bottom scrapes with not so even surfaces or just to much pressure. That wouldn't be an issue if you could use taller mouse feet.

That is why I said a modded Zowie FK could be good. Say, a Zowie FK in white, with taller mouse feet, using a fitted Avago lens, a red Artisan Hien or red Qck depending on whether red will still perform, otherwise an Artisan Hayate.

FK would be quite small coming from a 3.0 though. wink.gif

Speaking of which, I think I'm the only person that would prefer a wider AM~ more a la intelli 1.1. Steelseries Xai/Sensei is still the closest regardless of modified sides.

The jump from 450 > 1150 on current Zowie mice is also a bit large for me as I currently prefer around 800 dpi. tongue.gif

Edit: I'm not patronizing a single brand, but based on ambe shape and features I'm currently seeking, I would just grab the Sensei Raw. Minimal accel is a rather moot factor if the shape isn't comfortable or does not have specific criteria I seek.

I was actually hoping that the AM would be just like the 1.1 in terms of dimensions as I used to use one quite a bit with a palm grip. As it is now, it's just too thin and not tall enough to be palmed comfortably even with small hands. I've since moved on to 3.0/g400 style mice, but I still wouldn't mind something like a "AM-XL" for those of us that actually want a 1.1 substitute.

The AM is my most used mouse right now. Before that it was the DeathAdder because I couldn't use the Diamondback (which is very similar to the AM) as the wheel broke. I think I wouldn't mind a bigger AM. One thing about the AM though is how little the scroll wheel is exposed. Feels like they thought scrolling wasn't important, whereas the EC has a ridiculous amount exposed.

I would love native steps of 500, 1000, 2000. I could live with 400, 800, 1600. The latter is possible for Zowie with the latest revision from Avago, a standard lens and sensor height.

Believe all variations of the diamondback used a standard mechanical encoder which is more similar to the DA. Krait, was closer.

There may be alternative solutions in terms of DPI.
