Great card, I think the Vapor-X 7950 has some problems and the Gigabyte one is voltage locked.

Yeah, 7950 is probably going to be the way I go. There's been no confirmed release date for the 8xxx series as far as I am aware and the performance increase isn't likely to be that large if previous series are to go by.

I was actually keeping my eye on this thread, because I'm in the same situation; so I apologize if I'm hijacking your post..I have to say, I was tossed between a 7970 and a 7950; Seeing that Twin Frozr, I've made up my mind. Thanks!

the 7970 Gigabyte is voltage locked not the 7950. the new 7950 comes with a 1000MHz core.

op, in most games you won't need to oc the gpu but the cpu - yes. only for benching will you find the need to oc it. at 1200/1600 you should get a P7600 in firestrike.

Ahh the Twin Frozr III only has 1 DVI and 2 mini Displayports. I need to connect my monitors via DVI or VGA.

Thinking about plumping the extra for the 7970. Which should I get that isn't voltage locked and is cool/quiet? Can't afford the Lightning.

I'd wait dude, while the 7970 would be twice as fast, new consoles are coming out and with them new games with new engines that may push our current GPUs more than they have been pushed in afew years waiting for the 780 and the 8970 doesn't sound too unwise.

don't get any with the reference cooler what ever you do, they will eat away at your soul.

And the XFX cards are equally terrible.

Why pump out extra ca$h while you can reach 7970 GHz speed with a 7950 Boost?
Everybody have been telling you that starting at the end of page 1 & throughout 2nd page headscratch.gif

My vote goes to the MSI or Sapphire 7950 Boost thumb.gif
