If we're patient enough, we can wait for the gtx 700 or ati 8000 series to come out because those cards should be a bit more poweful than what is in the PS4 or Xbox 720. I know current cards are more powerful then whats going to be in the ps3, but more power is better right?

Wow, Strong misinformed.....

PS4 and Xbox Infinity will have something along the lines of a modified 7850....

Current flagship cards already smoke "Next Gen" consoles today.... Yes I said smoke just for you brah. wink.gif

No need to wait till next batch of cards to have something faster than next gen consoles.

I was told my gtx 570 has less teraflops than the graphics card ps4 is going to be using. Do teraflops matter that much? Do you think my gtx 570 is stll more powerful than the graphics card a ps4 or xbox 720 will use or probably not?

Eh, doesn't the 570 have 1.5GB Vram? not like it really matters Consoles will be @ 1080p will most likely never go over 2GB Vram. (And it's rumored that majority of games will be 60fps)

From what I'm gathering looking at benches, your 570 edges out the 7850 but keep in mind the consoles 7850 will be much more efficient and utilized much better than the PC counterpart.

i experienced what you are experiencing with my 6870. i think when they say 1GB it is not exactly 1 GB. it's like a hardrive, 1TB is actually 900 GB or something. our 1 GB gpu will drop the ball even before hitting 1Gig.

i have a gigabyte 7950 and mine is voltage unlocked. the newer ones are locked that come with 1000MHz out the box. not sure about flashing bios. i only oc benching and in metro (1100.1575).

I plan on playing ARMA 3 (if it finalizes end of the year), Battlefield 3, and i guess Battlefield 4? Im not too into crysis (i kind of really dig the modern warfare kinda thing -- no not call of duty). Either this coming Black Friday, or whenever the 7950 Boost drops in price a weeee bit more (i'd like to upgrade but taking 300 ish out of my wallet just for those "extra fps/anti-aliasing" is just out of the question after dropping like a thousand this year on my computer -- im just a part time working college student lol)... or should i just save up for a 7970? When do you think these cards drop in price? i only know nvidia cards, i know nothing about the AMD cards...

Is there a point to getting the 7970 under water for MY needs? I could always crossfire later... So in that case should i just stay with the 7950/7950 Boost considering the fact that theyre all 3GB VRAM and same memory bus? Its just the clocks? Anything more than 60 fps minimum is really unneeded, dont you agree? I have a 60hz LCD.

I thought AMD said no more cards this year?

sorry op have to answer Aes. if you are not into benching - i'd say stick with the 7950. a few fps is not wortth the extra $. save for haswell or steamroller, then go next gen cards.

Thank you! +REP biggrin.gif

But OP, if you think about it were just about in the same situation? Well the real question is whats cheaper for you in your area ? the 670 or the 7950? I guess the AMD drivers made such a huge impact on performance (i may actually consider these cards) since they are a lot cheaper than the 670 and they have the 3GB VRAM that sounds so delicious thumb.gif

But people have location issues so yeah, its either between the 670 or the 7950. if you were to get now, or you had the choice to wait. Im assuming NVidia will continue this weird 192bit memory bus trend and we'll be seeing the 256 bit memory buses on the 770... 780... etc it seems like <...60 are suffering the weird buses. So im assuming when the 700 series comes out the 770 might be a hefty price? (If you were to go with NVidia)

What is this Memory Bus thing you speak of, and why are you saying Nvidia goes low on them? Is it to save cost, and is there any serious performance advantage of having a higher Memory Bus?

GK104 was intended at the mainstream market at first (successor of GF104 & GF114) , and while GK100 (successor of GF100 & GF110) during that time was unprepared, AMD released their initial 7970.
After the performance of 7970 was unveiled Nvidia figured out they can compete with the 7970 using their mid-range GK104 chip, and at that time of course the GK100 was a dud and it wasn't ready to hit the market.
In short Nvidia released the mid-range GK104 and charged for it a high-end price, while the GK100 is upgraded to a more tweaked and mature process GK110 and is called Titan (for consumer market), Nvidia charge for the Titan $1000 in the US market, unlike its predecessors (GF100/ GF110) which both priced at $500 in the consumer market during their release.

TL;DR the GK104 uses a narrow bus because originally it was intended as a mid-range card. but after Nvidia figured out it can compete with 7970 they released it as a high-end product.
