What is the differance between Asus's F2A85-V Pro and the F2A85-M Pro?

ok I will start

ATX vs mATX
3 PCIE lanes vs 2 PCIE lanes

Anything else that is a huge performance differance? I have wanted the -V Pro but the price has not come down at all.

thanks.

Aside from form factor (which IMHO should be the deciding factor first and foremost) there's very little separating the two:

1. Same back I/O ports
2. Same number of USB ports (2.0 and 3.0)
3. Storage ports are the same (7 x SATA 6Gb/s port(s), gray; 1 x eSATA 6Gb/s port(s), red; Support Raid 0, 1, 5, 10, JBOD)
4. Audio chip is the same (Realtek® ALC892 8-Channel High Definition Audio CODEC)
5. Fan Xpert 2 --- Very good built in fan control from reviews and a friends' board I've seen

Personally for me the main difference is this:

1. F2A85-V Pro --- 6+2 Phase
2. F2A85-M PRO --- 4+2 Phase

The V-Pro should theoretically OC better, but that is also dependent on the silicon lottery. I personally would get the mATX if i was going for a smaller build but would go ATX if I wanted to OC better.

I will put whatever MB into my Arc Midi. The Midi will hold an ATX mobo but if I put a mATX MB in, that would leave more room for WC stuff.

So if you plan to OC, the board with the better Phase VRM setup should be the one you choose.

If not OCing (which is weird because this is OCN biggrin.gif) or at least just trying to OC mildly then the M-Pro would serve you well.

As for WC, go for the Swiftech H220 and place it up top, that should fit the Arc Midi and eliminate the need to have a reservoir which gives you more space to work with.

I was asking this same question last week and was wondering which one to buy. I settled on the F2A85-V PRO thinking it may be better for future updating. Not to mention, better to have more than less.
