Yes it would, except that the Quadro 4000 is double the price range at $700 for the cheapest one. Even going used would be difficult to find one in budget. This means he would have to opt for a much weaker Quadro 2000.

The Quadro 4000 would fair better than a GTX 670 in Maya, yes, but it would be worse in Photoshop and After Effects. The Quadro 2000 on the other hand that would be in budget also fairs a little better than a GTX 670 but is still going to be much weaker in PS and AE again.

Overall the 670 is going to be the better buy in my opinion, both the Q2000 and 670 have their ups and downs but in the end the 670 will have the most beneficial effect.

If gaming is not desired in this situation, buy this... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814195105&SortField=0&SummaryType=0&PageSize=10&SelectedRating=-1&VideoOnlyMark=False&IsFeedbackTab=true#scrollFullInfo

Excellent workstation card thumb.gif We have this installed in our workstations at the office. We use it for 3dStudio Max. For 3d animation, it is also excellent thumbsupsmiley.png

Read this review... http://www.pcper.com/reviews/Graphics-Cards/AMD-FirePro-V5800-and-V3800-Review-Evergreen-completes-sweep?aid=909

FYI...You'll have to drop more for a 2Gb workstation card but the 1Gb can still handle the business better than a gaming card regarding to programs like Maya & 3dStudio Max.

Awesome information guys, it's really appreciated. I'll shuffle this information to the lady in question and see where she goes. This V5900 for $370 looks like a pretty awesome price-performance buy, as does the W5000 if I can get her to save her pennies.

Now to satisfy my curiosity and see if the W5000 can game, too. thinking.gif

W5000 is a cut down Radeon HD7850/HD 7870 (pitcairn) with 768 stream processors and 1.27 TFLOPs of single precision compute performance (the reason is it needs to fit in the 75W TDP thermal envelope. It basically is a HD7850 (1024 stream processors) with HD 7750 power consumption.

V5900/V7900 is a modified Cayman (HD6950)

W7000 is a down-clocked HD 7870 (pitcairn) basically
Firepro W7000 has 2.4 TFLOPs single precision and 152 GFLOPs double precision floating point performance and 4GB GDDR5 with 154GB Bandwidth
The HD 7870 has 153.6GB/s memory bandwidth (maximum) , 2.56 TFLOPS Single Precision compute power, 160GFlops Double precision floating point, 2GB 256-bit GDDR5, 1000MHz Engine Clock
The HD 7850 has 1.76 TFLOPS Single Precision compute power, 100GFlops Double precision floating point, 2GB 256-bit GDDR5, 153.6GB/s memory bandwidth (maximum), 860MHz Engine Clock.

If you could flash the HD7870 to a 2GB version of the Firepro W7000 you'd be golden...
